Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly feature hosted by the fantastic blog The Broke and the Bookish. This week is a freebie, and I decided it was time to introduce all of my book boyfriends on the blog.
Although let’s be real, after reading ACOTAR, this list could just be Tamlin for 1-10.
1) Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses– Because TAMLIN. (Lauren @ Bookmarklit may be the only one who truly understands the extent of this obsession).
2) Raffe from Angelfall– Witty banter abounds with Raffe. Coupled with his high ranking angel status and I was sold.
3) Tarver from These Broken Stars– I was astounded by the level of passion and commitment Tarver showed in such bleak circumstances in this novel, and his ability to provide and survive was really appealing. He’s attractive and swoon-worthy, sure, but he’s also resourceful and determined, important traits in a love interest!
4) Rowan from Trial by Fire– I love love love Rowan’s dynamic as a witch’s mechanic. It’s sexy and proves he’s exceptionally intelligent and talented, if bitter and powerful.
5) Daemon from Obsidian (The Lux Series)- I was slow to warm up to Daemon because he was SUCH a jerk initially but I appreciate that I came to grow to love (and swoon over) him. He’s truly willing to burn down the world for those he loves.
6) Ignifex from Cruel Beauty– I love that he hovers on the knife’s edge of being an antagonist, but then certain actions bring him back to the “good” side, if only momentarily. Ignifex accepts flaws and imperfections and embraces the rage and sin of the human condition.
7) Jace from The Mortal Instruments– I’ll always have a soft spot for Jace, as younger me was drawn to his sarcastic dialogue and obvious defense mechanisms (wanting Clary to soothe his angst and all that). I think Jace grows a lot through the course of the series, and I appreciate that, as well as appreciate his ability to always make me laugh.
8) The Darkling from the Grisha trilogy- What can I say? He made the dark side look so enticing.
9) Arin from The Winner’s Curse– I feel like in the first book we got just a taste of Arin’s deeper self beyond the bitterness: intelligent, elegant, and passionate. I can’t wait to read the second book and see more of those traits!
10) Ben from Texas Gothic– One of the few mortals on here (when I like fictional characters, I seem to like them REALLY fictional), Ben’s southern charm caused me to swoon.
Have you swooned over any of these characters? What did you choose for your TTT topic today? Let me know in the comments!
I’ve only read one of the books on your list – Angelfall – though I recently bought Obsidian for my kindle and I’m very excited to read it. It’s been a while since I read some good ol’ fashioned paranormal YA, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a YA book involving aliens. Cruel Beauty’s on my TBR, and I’ve heard some pretty great things about Ignifex – you’ve made me all the more eager to check it out. 🙂 Great list!
Obsidian was my first book that featured paranormal YA aliens, and I was a little wary at first (I’m not a huge sci-fi person) but it’s really well done! Cruel Beauty is amazingly written, I can’t wait to read Crimson Bound by the same author!
I definitely agree with Tarver and Jace! My list would also include Jonah Griggs from Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta- he will always be my #1 book boyfriend. Great topic!
I haven’t read Jellicoe Road yet, but I’m intrigued by this Jonah character if he’s your #1 of all time!
Daemon for sure!! I am currently listening to These Broken Stars so we will see about Tarver. Fun topic and list!
Thank you! I love Daemon, I found him to be much more swoon-worthy than Dawson or Archer (but that’s just my opinion)!
Great choice of topic I must say 😀 I agree on Daemon! I haven’t read the other books yet. Happy reading! Here’s my post https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/top-ten-classics-ive-yet-to-read/
Jennifer L. Arementrout is truly gifted at writing swoon-worthy male leads!
Jace… Oh Jace! I will always have a soft spot for him as well! He was probably one of the first fictional boys who I fell in love with. And I am prepared to fall in love with Tamlin and also Raffe [I’m currently reading Angelfall!].
Loved your post, as always.
Right? Cassie Clare writes paranormal romance REALLY well, and I love all of the Herondale boys to be honest! I can’t wait for you to meet Tamlin <3
BECAUSE TAMLIN is our new response to anything/everything.
And also TARVER <3 agreeeeed.
I’m telling you, one day we need to meet up at an SJ Maas book signing and have shirts/bags/something with our new catchphrase on it, hahaha. (and yours can be pink and mine can be blue 🙂 )
I totally loved The Darkling too. hehe 😉 I also would have Tamlin and Arin on my list. I think I would have to add Chaol and Noah Shaw too. Super fun idea! Who doesn’t like talking about their book boyfriends?
I ALMOST put Chaol, put I waver between loving him and being exasperated by him (though I love him and Celaena together!)
Mmmmm YES PLEASE TAMLIN! ♥ He could totally be #’s 1-10 😀 Jace is a good one too, he definitely made me swoon, especially his kissing scenes! Yum. I still need to read Angelfall, These Broken Stars, The Lux Series, The Grisha Series and The Winner’s Curse though (gah!) but they’re all on my shelf waiting for me.
Oh, you have such good titles (and potential book boyfriends) waiting for you! 😉
Fun list idea! Although I haven’t read any books with your boyfriends. My number one would be Sherlock – the Benedict Cumberbatch version. 😉 Does that count?
I definitely have some tv show adaptation boyfriends (Gossip Girl in particular…I loved Chace Crawford as Nate!)
Oh yes! The Darkling is a great choice! 😉 Fun list!
He was just so much more INTERESTING than Mal!
I love this list! “He made the dark side look so enticing”, indeed he did! I really need to read ACOTAR so I can understand all of this Tamlin love that’s happening.
Yes yes yes! Read ACOTAR and than we can fangirl and discuss it! 🙂
Oh, good, I’m so glad you said Tamlin. I’ve been seeing a lot of Rhysand infatuation going around and I’m just not that into him. My topic today is fictional women I’d include in my zombie apocalypse team. Great list, Cristina!
Right? I mean Rhysand intrigues me and I like him as a character, but I didn’t really feel a lot of chemistry between him and Feyre, and even if there was it was more stemmed out of desperation of Feyre doing anything to save Tamlin.
I think so too and it doesn’t help that we only got a little glimpse into who he is when the book was so focused on Feyre and Tamlin. We will see how everything goes…
Nice list!! I essentially picked the same topic as you did this week!
Here’s the link to my Top Ten Tuesday post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/05/top-ten-tuesday-sexy-male-characters-in.html
This list basically has me flailing, just because I have so many of these books that I’m planning on reading soon! Trial by Fire, The Winner’s Curse, Shadow & Bone, and Cruel Beauty! And I CANNOT WAIT TO FINALLY GET MY HANDS ON THESE BROKEN STARS. I’ve been trying to stop myself from requesting it from the library but it seems to be a losing battle.
Oh you have so many good books to get to this summer! I’m so bad about library requests, I’ll restrain myself for like a month and only read from my owned TBR, and then I’ll browse the catalog and BAM before I know it I’ve requested 5 books (which of course will all come in at the same time).
Great list! I totally agree with Jace’s swoonworthiness. I love that snark! I made my list on “Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far in 2015.” Here’s my TTT. Happy reading!
All of the Herondale’s have that swoon-worthy snark, it must be genetic!
ohmygoodness all these swoon worthy boys are making me… well, swoon. ignifex, the darkling, arin… MY HEART CAN’T DEAL. love your post!! <333
Thank you! I definitely don’t see as much Ignifex love as I think he deserves! Cruel Beauty is just a wonderfully written book in general, I can’t wait to get to Crimson Bound! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
I’ve only heard of Jace from your list. I’m sure the others are dreamy, too 🙂
Happy TTT!
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
I always forget about Ignifex! Love him!
I also love Jace and Daemon! I have a HUGE soft spot for the sarcastic, initially-a-jerk heroes. Like Adrian from Vampire Academic.
A few others of mine: Ansel from Sweet Filthy Boy; Four from Divergent and Drew from One Week Girlfriend.
OH I just bought the first Vampire Academy novel but haven’t read it yet, but I’m excited to now that I know there’s a swoon-worthy love interest! I forgot about Four! He’s a great addition to the list (and Theo James is lovely too, haha) 😉
Adrian is in the second book of Vampire Academy but there are definitely some other swoon-worthy characters in the first book as well <3
It totally doesn't hurt Four's case that Theo James plays him 😉
I have heard of a couple of the characters on here but haven’t read any of the books! I cannot wait to read ACOTAR though! Everyone’s been saying it’s so good so I’m really excited!
ACOTAR really lives up to all of the hype! Be prepared to have a major book-hangover from it!
I’m not sure I’ve got over the end of Heir of Fire yet…..I may not be emotionally ready! Still I love books that give you book hangovers because that just means they’re crazy good! I need that right now, the books I’ve read since Heir of Fire have been kind of…meh is the best way to describe it.
Jace was my first fictional crush ever and I definitely loved his witty sarcasm. Great point, I think all of us readers really enjoyed seeing him grow and his character develop throughout the series. 🙂
Jace was really one of my first swoon-worthy interests too, because TMI was one of the first long YA paranormal series I read outside of Harry Potter/Twilight. I think Cassie Clare does a really good job at writing romance!
