American Royals by Katharine McGee | Review

American Royals was a book I was SO excited for, actually went to the store and purchased a hardcover of, and then procrastinated for several months on actually reading, lol. I think it was an instance of being SO excited for a book but worrying I might be let down so I put off actually reading it (despite a few attempts at starting). I finally finished it through a combination of reading the hardcover and listening to the audio, and while I enjoyed reading it, it definitely didn’t live up to all of my (admittedly very high) expectations. If you’ve […]

The Classification Struggle | How Do You Decide Which Genre Wins Out?

Max and I moved into a new home last year and I was lucky enough to have a room built that is specifically for my library! It’s been a DREAM of mine, and I can’t wait to get it finished one day (COVID-19 has put a halt to my furniture shopping for the room for now). With a new library comes a more shelves, and for the first time ever I actually have an abundance of shelf space! While going through the unpacking process and actually being able to have shelves dedicated entirely to certain genres, I noticed that I […]

Salty, Bitter, Sweet by Mayra Cuevas | Review

Never have I read a book that has made me so hungry. I love YA books centered on food and am quite the foodie despite not really cooking much myself (I blame an obsession with Food Network shows) so I adore books about aspiring chefs. I’ve read quite a few over the years and have never found one with such vivid food descriptions as Salty, Bitter Sweet. In addition to the mouthwatering food descriptions, I genuinely enjoyed the story, which follows a half Latinx protagonist spending the summer in Europe…this book really had almost all of my favorite things! The […]

Month in Review: March 2020

Well, 2020 has taken quite the turn, hasn’t it? Never in my wildest, anxiety ridden dreams did I imagine that we’d be dealing with an international pandemic this year, or in my lifetime really. As of writing this, I’ve been in my house without leaving for 35 days. We’re incredibly lucky that California took COVID-19 very seriously early on and put a shelter in place order out super early, so luckily things aren’t too bad here though we’re being extra cautious. Therefore, this month’s recap doesn’t have much to report aside from a plethora of homemade meals, a LOT of […]

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson | Review

There’s nothing like reading a book that completely pulls you out of a reading slump, and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson did the trick for me while in a anxiety induced quarantine reading slump that lasted throughout most of March. I enjoy the thriller genre but rarely find them to be 5 star reads for me, however this story managed to satisfy and surprise me, and even though I “guessed” some of the mystery (which can be a little disappointing) there were still several twists I did not see coming! Following protagonist Pippa, a high school […]

Monthly TBR Plan: April 2020

I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR. Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 18/100* Books Read *Wish me luck as I try to read more books in 2020 than ever before! I think we […]

If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka | ARC Review

If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka | ARC Review

There’s no denying what a stunning cover If I’m Being Honest has, and it’s what initially drew me to the novel despite my hesitation toward all things Shakespeare (I am personally not a fan of The Bard, and this is supposed to be a retelling of The Taming of the Shrew). I was surprised to find that despite it’s premise, I really enjoyed this story and found it a fast and fun contemporary that I read in just a few sittings. Right from the synopsis, readers are made aware that they are getting an unlikable- or at least difficult- protagonist. […]
