Book Buddies Review: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

This month I’m partnering up with Lauren from bookmarklit for Book Buddies, an every-other month feature where Lauren and I will choose a themed read to buddy read and then get together and discuss the things that stand out! You can see both of our opinions and discussions in the conversation review format, and it will be posted on the last Wednesday of the month! This month’s read was Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children in honor of Halloween in just a few days! This is the second half our discussion, to read the first part of our thoughts, check […]

Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Arementrout | Review

Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Arementrout | Review

I could do nothing else while I read this book. I carried it with me in the car, to meals, to the gym, read it while waiting at the DMV, neglected getting enough sleep to continue it, and finally finished it less than 24 hours later. It was the epitome of a can’t-put-down-until-you-know-the-ending (semi) psychological thriller. I’ll be honest- this was the first novel I’ve read by Arementrout that wasn’t part of her Lux series, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a completely different type of YA novel, a stand alone, and a different publisher (her Lux […]

Top Ten Characters I’d Want to Be (or Have Been) For Halloween

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by the fantastic blog The Broke and the Bookish. There were a few options for this week’s topic, and I chose “Top Ten Characters I Would Want to Dress Up As for Halloween.” I decided this would be really fun (if not realistic, because my sewing skills are basically non-existent) and perhaps one day I’ll be able to replicate a few of these! Some of these ideas are taken from costumes I’ve created in the past as well. 1) Katniss from The Huger Games Trilogy- This is actually a costume that I’ve […]

Sunday Funday: Week in Review [17]

Sunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back! October 20-26, 2014 Life Nothing too exciting happened this week. I traveled a bit and was able to spend some time with my grandparents, which is always great, especially since my grandmother shares my love of books, although she indulges mostly in historical fiction (she’s the one who got me interested in Philipa Gregory novels). My mom surprised me with Sprinkles cupcakes later in the week from a trip she took, […]

Harry Potter MOTW [4]: If there was one thing about Harry Potter that you could change, what would it be?

Harry Potter MOTW [4]: If there was one thing about Harry Potter that you could change, what would it be?

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a weekly meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts, and is a fantastic way to keep the Harry Potter magic alive year round, even when not reading the books! The Theme This Week: If there was one thing about Harry Potter that you could change, what would it be? I’m taking the question this week to mean Harry Potter as a series, rather than as a person. Personally, the thing that irked me the most throughout the series was the romance. It felt forced and unnecessary, and genuinely out of place. I’m not usually a […]

Top Ten New(ish) Series I Want To Start

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by the fantastic blog The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic was “Top Ten New Series You Want to Start.” I’ve tried to keep most of the series I chose with publication dates of 2012 or sooner. All the books listed are the first in a series, and the title links go to the corresponding Goodreads pages! 1) Of Poseidon by Anna Banks– I need to see what all the hype is around the mermaid craze! 2) Wicked by Jennifer L Armentrout- I love JLA and can’t wait to read a […]

Sunday Funday: Week in Review [16]

Sunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back! October 13-19, 2014 Life This week was a busy one, spent with indulging in a lot of fun fall activities as Halloween nears. I was able to visit a pumpkin farm, go on a hay ride, find my way through a corn maze, and eat the most delicious apple pie ever this weekend. I also carved my first pumpkin (since I was old enough to remember, anyway) and used all the […]

Harry Potter MOTW [3]: Where would you live as a witch/wizard?

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a weekly meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts, and is a fantastic way to keep the Harry Potter magic alive year round, even when not reading the books! I’m so excited to be participating! The Theme This Week: If you were a witch/wizard, where would you live? “Hogsmeade looked like a Christmas card; the little thatched cottages and shops were all covered in a layer of crisp snow; there were holly wreaths on the doors and strings of enchanted candles hanging in the trees.“ Hands down, if I had to live in one of […]
