Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by the fantastic blog The Broke and the Bookish. This week a few of my books are spillover from my fall TBR that I didn’t get to, combined with my holiday-themed reads and some December/January releases. These are mostly books I hope to finish by the end of 2014/early 2015! 1-2) My True Love Gave to Me and Let It Snow Anthologies- I haven’t read any YA short stories so I’m really excited that I own both of these to get me into the holiday season! 3) Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout- […]

Sunday Funday: Week in Review [19]

Sunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back! November 17-23, 2014 Life So many things happened this week! I took a mini-vacation in the middle of the week with my boyfriend and we saw one of our favorite musical groups, PostModern Jukebox! They do covers of popular songs in incredible arrangements based upon other decades (like a 1950’s version of “We Can’t Stop,” a 1920’s version of “Drunk in Love,” etc.) It was a dinner show at a gorgeous […]

Stacking the Shelves [12]

Stacking the Shelves [12]

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews where bloggers share the books that they’ve added to their shelves this week, whether borrowed, bought, virtual, physical, etc! Borrowed: I’ve been on the waitlist for this book at my library for a while, and when I picked it up yesterday I was struck by how incredibly short it is! This is one I’m hoping to read in one sitting to really get the full effect of the story, and I’m really curious to read how the author tackles some tough subject matters in this novel. I also picked […]

YA Imprints: Expectations or Extras?

YA Imprints: Expectations or Extras?

No doubt YA books have started to occupy a larger and larger portion of the book market. Whether you notice the expanding shelf space in bookstores dedicated to YA novels or the fact that a good chunk of movie blockbusters this year have been film adaptations of popular YA novels (Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, If I Stay, The Mazerunner, Mockingjay…) it’s impossible to not see the growing mark YA novels are making. Though I’ve only been officially YA book blogging for about a year, I’ve been reading YA since about 2001-2002 (I started young) and it’s exploded from […]

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas- Review

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas- Review

This may be more of a rant than a review. Not necessarily a bad one, but definitely an impassioned one. Because Throne of Glass and I have perhaps the most love-hate relationship I’ve had with a book all year. So there were some high expectations I had for this going in, based on the plethora of rave reviews I’ve read: A) A kick-butt, take-no-prisoners, no-holds-barred, assassin protagonist B) A well done love triangle C) A creative fantasy world with good world-building I can say after finishing the novel that b & c were pretty well accomplished, but part of me […]

Harry Potter MOTW [6]: Which Weasley Character Would You Be?

Harry Potter MOTW [6]: Which Weasley Character Would You Be?

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a weekly meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts, and is a fantastic way to keep the Harry Potter magic alive year round, even when not reading the books! The Theme This Week: Which Weasley Character Would You Be? Bill was — there was no other word for it — cool. (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) Though little page time is devoted to Bill until much later in the series, I was immediately taken with the idea of the eldest Weasley brother. Harry had heard Ron mention his older brother in ways […]
