Top Ten Book Boyfriends

Posted May 18, 2015 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Top Ten Tuesday, Weekly Features/Memes / 42 Comments

TTTcustombannerTop Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly feature hosted by the fantastic blog The Broke and the Bookish. This week is a freebie, and I decided it was time to introduce all of my book boyfriends on the blog.

Although let’s be real, after reading ACOTAR, this list could just be Tamlin for 1-10.

1) Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses– Because TAMLIN. (Lauren @ Bookmarklit may be the only one who truly understands the extent of this obsession).

2) Raffe from Angelfall– Witty banter abounds with Raffe. Coupled with his high ranking angel status and I was sold.

3) Tarver from These Broken Stars– I was astounded by the level of passion and commitment Tarver showed in such bleak circumstances in this novel, and his ability to provide and survive was really appealing. He’s attractive and swoon-worthy, sure, but he’s also resourceful and determined, important traits in a love interest!

4) Rowan from Trial by Fire– I love love love Rowan’s dynamic as a witch’s mechanic. It’s sexy and proves he’s exceptionally intelligent and talented, if bitter and powerful.

5) Daemon from Obsidian (The Lux Series)- I was slow to warm up to Daemon because he was SUCH a jerk initially but I appreciate that I came to grow to love (and swoon over) him. He’s truly willing to burn down the world for those he loves.

6) Ignifex from Cruel Beauty I love that he hovers on the knife’s edge of being an antagonist, but then certain actions bring him back to the “good” side, if only momentarily. Ignifex accepts flaws and imperfections and embraces the rage and sin of the human condition.

7) Jace from The Mortal Instruments– I’ll always have a soft spot for Jace, as younger me was drawn to his sarcastic dialogue and obvious defense mechanisms (wanting Clary to soothe his angst and all that). I think Jace grows a lot through the course of the series, and I appreciate that, as well as appreciate his ability to always make me laugh.

8) The Darkling from the Grisha trilogy- What can I say? He made the dark side look so enticing.

9) Arin from The Winner’s Curse– I feel like in the first book we got just a taste of Arin’s deeper self beyond the bitterness: intelligent, elegant, and passionate. I can’t wait to read the second book and see more of those traits!

10) Ben from Texas Gothic– One of the few mortals on here (when I like fictional characters, I seem to like them REALLY fictional), Ben’s southern charm caused me to swoon.

Have you swooned over any of these characters? What did you choose for your TTT topic today? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’ve only read one of the books on your list – Angelfall – though I recently bought Obsidian for my kindle and I’m very excited to read it. It’s been a while since I read some good ol’ fashioned paranormal YA, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a YA book involving aliens. Cruel Beauty’s on my TBR, and I’ve heard some pretty great things about Ignifex – you’ve made me all the more eager to check it out. 🙂 Great list!

  2. I definitely agree with Tarver and Jace! My list would also include Jonah Griggs from Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta- he will always be my #1 book boyfriend. Great topic!

  3. Jace… Oh Jace! I will always have a soft spot for him as well! He was probably one of the first fictional boys who I fell in love with. And I am prepared to fall in love with Tamlin and also Raffe [I’m currently reading Angelfall!].
    Loved your post, as always.

  4. I totally loved The Darkling too. hehe 😉 I also would have Tamlin and Arin on my list. I think I would have to add Chaol and Noah Shaw too. Super fun idea! Who doesn’t like talking about their book boyfriends?

  5. Mmmmm YES PLEASE TAMLIN! ♥ He could totally be #’s 1-10 😀 Jace is a good one too, he definitely made me swoon, especially his kissing scenes! Yum. I still need to read Angelfall, These Broken Stars, The Lux Series, The Grisha Series and The Winner’s Curse though (gah!) but they’re all on my shelf waiting for me.

  6. This list basically has me flailing, just because I have so many of these books that I’m planning on reading soon! Trial by Fire, The Winner’s Curse, Shadow & Bone, and Cruel Beauty! And I CANNOT WAIT TO FINALLY GET MY HANDS ON THESE BROKEN STARS. I’ve been trying to stop myself from requesting it from the library but it seems to be a losing battle.

    • Oh you have so many good books to get to this summer! I’m so bad about library requests, I’ll restrain myself for like a month and only read from my owned TBR, and then I’ll browse the catalog and BAM before I know it I’ve requested 5 books (which of course will all come in at the same time).

  7. Great list! I totally agree with Jace’s swoonworthiness. I love that snark! I made my list on “Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far in 2015.” Here’s my TTT. Happy reading!

I have heard of a couple of the characters on here but haven’t read any of the books! I cannot wait to read ACOTAR though! Everyone’s been saying it’s so good so I’m really excited!

I’m not sure I’ve got over the end of Heir of Fire yet…..I may not be emotionally ready! Still I love books that give you book hangovers because that just means they’re crazy good! I need that right now, the books I’ve read since Heir of Fire have been kind of…meh is the best way to describe it.

  9. Jace was my first fictional crush ever and I definitely loved his witty sarcasm. Great point, I think all of us readers really enjoyed seeing him grow and his character develop throughout the series. 🙂

    • Jace was really one of my first swoon-worthy interests too, because TMI was one of the first long YA paranormal series I read outside of Harry Potter/Twilight. I think Cassie Clare does a really good job at writing romance!
