Sunday Funday: A Hawaiian Hiatus [5]

Sunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back! June 23-June 29, 2014 This week I wanted to let everyone know that I’m going to be gone until about next weekend to Hawaii! I’m lucky enough to have received this trip as a graduation present from my Aunt, and we are going to be staying at a couple of different resorts throughout the week, seeing the sights, and doing a lot of reading by the pool! I have a few […]

Stacking the Shelves [2]

Stacking the Shelves [2]

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews where bloggers share the books that they’ve added to their shelves this week, whether borrowed, bought, virtual, physical, etc! So a bunch of books I had requested came in all at once at the local library (funny how they always seem to come in at once, huh?) I’ve really been anticipating Love Letters to the Dead due to a couple of factors: 1) The cover is absolutely gorgeous and 2) Stephen Chbosky, author of the Perks of Being a Wallflower, has spoken so highly about it. I’m about a […]

Sunday Funday: Week in Review [4]

Sunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back! June 16-June 22, 2014 I just ended the first two weeks of my summer job, which accounts for the slower pace of posts going up lately. Now that things have settled down and I’ve gotten back into the groove of working, I’ll be posting more regularly! I was also nominated this week for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, so thanks so much to Stefani from Caught Read Handed for nominating me! […]

Scholastic Warehouse Sale and Book Haul

A few days ago I had the awesome opportunity to attend the Scholastic Book Fairs Warehouse Sale, which takes place in the summer in certain major cities of the US. I was able to attend the sale thanks to my aunt who is a teacher, who was invited to attend (Remember those Scholastic Book Fair Book Orders you used to get in elementary schools? These warehouses are the fulfilling centers for them and for the rotating book fairs they set up in school libraries). Most of the books are anywhere from 20%-50% off and it goes without saying that I […]

Discussion: New Adult Fiction

Discussion: New Adult Fiction

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about the new(ish) genre “New Adult Fiction,” with many varying opinions regarding whether it’s a great new idea or just another way to compartmentalize younger readers out of the adult fiction section. It’s still somewhat debated as to whether “New Adult” is an actual genre or a marketing term, but the idea (from what I’ve read and researched) is that it’s a midway point between YA and Adult, focusing on the age range of 18-25 and covering issues such as college, first jobs, starting families, etc. My primary problem with the concept of “New […]
