Unsettling Chills or Slow Burn Thrills? A Halloween Discussion

With Halloween a mere sleep away, spooky book recommendations are flooding the internet, from classic horror literature picks to unnerving psychological thrillers. Yet I find that there’s a stark difference in the appeal of a thriller novel and a horror story, a line that separates two distinct experiences a reader has when choosing one of the two genres. While some may welcome both horror and thrillers and discriminate against neither, I find that my personal reading preference lie firmly on one side of the two common Halloween genres. I love thrillers, but 99% of the time I will run in […]

Celebrating One Year of Book Buddies: A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis (& Giveaway!)

Cristina, Kaitlin, and Lauren Read: Book Buddies is a discussion style review I participate in every other month with my friend Lauren who runs the blog Bookmarklit. This month marks the one year anniversary of book buddies, and to celebrate Lauren had the fantastic idea of doing a group Book Buddies read with Kaitlin from Next Page Please!, who serves as her other book buddy. Somehow, however, A Thousand Nights slipped through my bookish radar and when I finally got my hands on a much-coveted copy at ALA, I was somehow convinced it was going to be your average, run of the mill, Disney-washed Arabian folk tale retelling that was heavy […]

Sunday Funday: Week in Review [32]

Life Hello! Remember me? Where have I been? Everywhere, it seems, except for the book blogging world for the past two weeks, tragically. I’m in the midst of the busiest time of year at my work, I just had a major move into a new apartment, and I also just got back from a week long trip to DISNEYWORLD. So while I haven’t had too much time to be in the blogosphere, I really can’t complain because I’ve been lucky enough to have SO many other adventures in the meantime. I’m considering doing a recap on the blog of my […]
