Mini Reviews: Screen Queens & You Say It First

Is there anything more topical than a book about a group of girls killing it in the tech world? I think not, and I was so excited to get my hands on an ARC of Screen Queens for that exact reason- to see a book that promotes women breaking down barriers and making history in the Silicon Valley. Following Lucy, Maddie and Delia, three very different girls from very different background and with very different skill sets, I felt as though I had traveled to a Silicon Valley summer start up incubator right alongside them! While Screen Queens celebrates the […]

I Want to Read More Adult!

It’s no secret that I read a LOT of YA. I did start out as a YA book blog, after all! While I do read adult fiction too, it’s typically all in the romance genre, rather than the contemporary/literary fiction genre. Due to working remotely for the foreseeable future, my team at work has decided to start a virtual book club, and the general tastes of the books being suggested is definitely along the lines of contemporary adult fiction. In reading the synopsis of some of the suggested books, I realize I’ve definitely been out of the loop lately with […]

Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber | Review

Midnight at the Blackbird Café is a charming, contemporary adult novel that takes place in a small Southern community with a lot of heart, delicious food, and a hint of magic. The story follows Anna Kate, pre-med college student who has returned to her family’s hometown in the wake of her grandmother’s death to get her affairs in order and figure out to do with her iconic café. As one can imagine, what intends to be a quick month of cleaning and legal work turns into Anna Kate learning about family secrets, discovering the magic that her grandmother wove into […]

Month in Review: July 2020

Well I’ll admit, it’s been a minute since I posted a monthly recap. Since March 2020, to be exact. The reason being that literally my days are all pretty much the exact same. Wake up, work, exercise, watch tvs/read, go to bed, Rinse, lather, repeat. I’m not complaining- I know I am SO lucky to have a house I can quarantine in and that my job is remote so I don’t have to go out for work, but it also hasn’t been the most conducive to talking about my life lately because I just feel like everything has been more […]

Mini Reviews: Deadly Little Scandals, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird, and Broken Things

Despite my saltiness about a mid-series cover change, I was excited to pick up the sequel to Little White Lies relatively soon after reading it (so refreshing to actually remember what happened in book 1, lol). I was a little apprehensive going in because even though the first book ended on a huge cliffhanger, I heard that the multiple timelines that happened in book 2 were convoluted and a bit confusing. While there WAS a lot going on in flashbacks in this book, I didn’t find it too difficult to follow and the story delivered quite a few twists! Seriously, […]

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia | Review

Mexican Gothic is probably one of the most buzzed about books of 2020 in my online social circles, and I can’t deny that it’s easy to see why when you look at the cover, the synopsis…just everything about it screams READ ME. As excited as I was to dive into it, I’ll admit I did have some reservations because I am not a horror type of gal. I’m so glad I did push myself out of my comfort zone though as Mexican Gothic proved to be a compelling, if rather surprising, read. Set in 1950s Mexico, Mexican Gothic follows protagonist […]

August 2020 TBR

I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR. Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 47/100* Books Read *Wish me luck as I try to read more books in 2020 than ever before! Can you believe […]

tbr selections inspired by folklore

tbr selections inspired by folklore

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been streaming folklore nonstop since it’s drop in late July, soaking in the lyrics, the stories, the sounds and unable to turn it off even when you’re not listening to it. I’ll admit I’m surprised that I like it so much considering I didn’t really become a Taylor fan until 1989 (aside from liking the occasional single from her country albums- Love Story is a bop). So I thought, why not channel my obsession with the album’s melancholy tones that perfectly match my quarantine mood with some selections from my TBR? It ended up […]
