Event Recap | Slayer Tour with Kiersten White!

I kicked off 2019 by attending a book event within the first full week of January, and it was a blast! It felt so good to start the new year with the author and blogger community and attend the blog tour for one of the most anticipated books of 2019, Slayer by Kiersten White! In conversation with Adrienne Young (author of Sky in the Deep), Kiersten visited Books Inc. in Palo Alto to share her journey writing her Buffy-inspired novel with YA and Buffy fans alike (although I may or may not have been called out for being one of […]

Event Recap | Royal Bastards Launch

This month I had the opportunity to return to my favorite independent bookstore, Kepler’s, to celebrate the launch of the new fantasy debut by Andrew Shvarts, Royal Bastards. Pitched as “Game of Thrones meets the Breakfast Club,” it focuses on a teenage group of -you guessed it- royal bastards. Since I consider myself a second-hand Game of Thrones fan (Max is an expert on all things A Song of Ice and Fire) I’m excited to dive into this seemingly accessible YA high fantasy novel! Andrew was in conversation with Tara Sim, author of Timekeeper, and she was a fantastic moderator! […]

Event Recap: Laini Taylor and Jandy Nelson

2017 is proving to be absolutely filled with bookish events so far, and March was no exception! I already had the fantastic opportunity to see Jeff and Brittany at Kepler’s in the middle of the month, and returned to Kepler’s again at the end of March to see Jandy Nelson and Laini Taylor (!!!) speak about her new book, Strange the Dreamer. I’ve been a HUGE fan of Laini’s since reading her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series (seriously, her writing is the most lyrical prose I’ve come across in YA) and I haven’t had the chance to meet her […]

Welcome, Welcome! | Caraval & The Secret of a Heart Note Launch

I was so incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to attend the dual launch last week of both Caraval and The Secret of  a Heart Note. While Kepler’s has an amazing line up of visiting authors ahead in 2017, attending a launch is always extra special, getting to see the author jittery with nerves, excitement, and euphoria as their book, often with years of work behind it, finally finds its way into the hands of readers. The dual launch for Caraval and The Secret of a Heart Note was such a genuine celebration, with readers coming to the Bay Area […]

WayWitch Tour Recap: A January Tradition

For the second year in a row I’ve been lucky enough to kick off January by seeing Alex Bracken and Susan Dennard on tour promoting their newest books! This year’s WayWitch Tour came on the heels of the release of Wayfarer and Windwitch, the final installment in Alex’s Passenger duology and the second installment in Susan’s Witchlands fantasy series. Seeing these two again was such a pleasure, especially since their energy and friendship is palpable to everyone in the audience. Max and I arrived at Kepler’s around 6:25pm and there was already quite the turnout…we ended up with 4th row […]

YALLWest Round 2: A Quintessentially California Tradition

YALLWest Round 2: A Quintessentially California Tradition

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that last year I attended the inaugural YALLWest, the exclusively YA California book festival that takes place in Santa Monica every spring (affectionately deemed “Bookchella” least year since it was the same weekend as Coachella). It was my first big “bookish” event with other bloggers, authors, and publishers and I had one of the best weekends of my life. Needless to say, I knew I would be attending the sophomore year of the festival, and found it to be just as amazing, with even more structure, organization, and additions […]

When I Collided with Emery Lord

When I Collided with Emery Lord

While living on the West Coast often doesn’t afford as many opportunities for author signings and bookish events as other parts of the country, I’ve been lucky enough to seek out a fair few since I started blogging. When I do hear of an opportunity to meet a young adult author, I jump at the chance and Max and I excitedly plan a whole day or afternoon around the experience. This past weekend was one of those marvelous instances. My favorite indie bookstore, Kepler’s, hosts a large variety of author signings, and I was lucky enough to see Emery Lord […]
