Another year in the books! Most of my top reads this year were in the first half of the year, as the second half was dominated by pregnancy and baby books. These are in no particular order, except for Quicksilver being number uno.
Quicksilver | You know that GIF of Lady Gaga that’s like “terrific, fantastic, phenomenal, iconic” etc? That’s how I feel about this book. Is it super original? No. I haven’t written my review yet but in many ways it felt like it could’ve started as ACOMAF fanfiction, but it was still so so good and captivated me in a way I haven’t been by a book in a while. I read it via KU but as soon as a special edition is out (which I’m sure will happen eventually) I’ll be pre-ordering ASAP. Needless to say the sequel is my most anticipated read of 2025.
Iron Flame | Was this book much more political and drawn out than Fourth Wing? Yes, yes it was? Did I still enjoy it? Absolutely. Give me all of the sassy dragons and Violet + Xander, please. Also, it ended on a monster of a cliffhanger.
The Right Move | Everyone said this is the best book in the series and they were not wrong! Ryan and Indy’s romance was so sweet and swoony and it was a sports romance that wasn’t completely dominated by the athletics. I loved the fake dating/forced proximity tropes, and it expanded the world of this series nicely. Honestly it can probably be read as a stand alone too and is just all around a great example of a good contemporary romance in a very over saturated market.
Pestilence | This was my dark horse of the year! Definitely one I picked up from KU on a whim, and I usually don’t do much post-apocalyptic these days (like if depressing enough as is) but this one was really good! As a former religious studies major I was so fascinated by the idea of the Four Horsemen being personified and sent to earth. I have really stayed away from depressing/sad reads the past few years which is why I haven’t picked up the remaining books in the series but I’ll make an exception for them since this one was so interesting!
The Score | I feel like these books are some of the most well-known of the New Adult sports romance genre. I’ve read the entire first part of the series and enjoyed some more than others, but Dean and Allie’s story was hands down my favorite.
I’m hoping to get to more fiction in 2025 and have a top 10 instead of just a top 5, but I really enjoyed these reads, and considering a majority of them were courtesy of my KU subscription I’m happy that I’m getting my money’s worth!

I devoured Fourth Wing in February and then have hesitated to dive into Iron Flame … maybe with Onyx Storm coming out next week, I’ll take the plunge – since I won’t have to fall off the cliffhanger as far.
I just started Onyx Storm today and wish I had saved Iron Flame to read closer to it’s release, as I definitely have forgotten some things….so now is a perfect time to read both!
