ARC August is hosted by Read. Sleep. Repeat. and this is its third year. The goal is to tackle some of the ARCs on your TBR in a fun and low-key challenge environment.
So Sometimes This Little Thing Called Life Happens…
In case you haven’t noticed, it’s been quieter than normal over here the past week (and by quiet, I mean I’ve only posted once). That’s because this month I’ve encountered some major life changes, including starting a new job in a new city, moving into a temporary living situation, and hunting for permanent housing to accommodate my new work location. I’m also getting used to working 40+ hour weeks with a commute over an hour each way, so you can say it’s been a bit of an adjustment. However, I am loving this new opportunity in my life and loving my new job and location, and after my first week adjusting I am determined to find more of a balance with reading and blogging. So please excuse if things are a tad slower around here than usual, but I am just as excited to be a part of the blogging community as ever!
ARC August Progress So Far
Due to these major life changes, my reading has slowed down this past week. However, I’ve managed to read a few ARCs this month that I was highly anticipating. So far I’ve completed:
Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith
Firewalker by Josephine Angelini
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
So far Six of Crows has been the best by leaps and bounds. It’s literally AMAZING and the Grisha trilogy was a bit middle of the road for me, so I’m truly blown away. I was SO excited for Firewalker (my most anticipated ARC that I received at ALA) and was really, really disappointed to find it didn’t resonate with me at all the way Trial by Fire did. Interesting how different works by the same author can evoke such different emotions from you.
I’m hoping to get through at least one more ARC this month, as I also have some non ARCs I need to get to as well. Also, a big thanks to everyone who’s bearing with me as my schedule shifts around a little bit…I promise I’ll continue to post thoughtful content!
I hope you can listen to audiobooks on your commute. I used to drive an hour one way, and audiobooks really helped. I found I didn’t even mind getting stuck in traffic because it meant more time to listen to my book. 🙂
That’s the plan! I just joined Scribd so I’m hoping the selection will be decent and I’ll be able to power though a book a week!
I hope it works out for you. I’ve been curious about Scribd. You’ll have to blog about it. 🙂
So far I’ve listened to one audiobook and I felt so-so about it (it may have been the narrator though). Once I have listened to a few more I will do a post about my experience 🙂
I was wondering why you’ve been missing from my feeds! 😛 hope everything is going well for the new job and location!! I’m sad to hear about Firewalker :/ I’ve been seeing a lot of middle-of-the-road ratings and I’m nervous to read it now.
Thank you Lauren! It’s been quite an adjustment and I’ve felt incomplete without the time to blog! Once everything settles down I can hopefully get back to my normal blogging schedule!
ALSO Firewalker. Yeah….so disappointed. There were a few scenes that saved it from dipping below a three star rating but it was close. I am SO bummed.
I did notice that your were less active! I’m used to seeing your reviews in my feed. Anyways, good luck with adjusting to your new living situation!
Thank you so much Kelly! I’m getting back into the swing of things now 🙂
