Since we’re in the thick of the holiday season, I thought it would be fun to showcase the holiday decorations happening at my house! My family really likes decorating for the holidays, and there’s nothing to really get you into the spirit like lights and garland everywhere! Above is our main tree in our family room, where the family presents go and where we gather around on Christmas morning with friends and family. Each member of the family is assigned a certain wrapping paper theme (mine, for instance, is the Disney princess paper).
My favorite place to read in the winter is the couch right next to the fireplace. Right now I’m slowly savoring the short stories in My True Love Gave To Me and rereading the last book in The Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy, Forever. You can usually find me sipping on tea (chamomile is my favorite) and surrounded by my various pets while I read.
We always set up a second tree in the living room. This is the more “formal” tree with the more delicate ornaments and the ornaments are all either gold, silver, or glass. There are also cute little white dove and owl ornaments in the tree, which one of my kittens seems to think are real (it’s his first Christmas). We’ve found him dragging one of the birds across the house and presenting it to us proudly (like he just hunted it- rather ambitious for an indoor-only cat). We haven’t quite figured out how he’s getting up into the tree to get the ornaments down since we keep moving them progressively higher…
Upstairs is a mini tree that houses all of me and my sibling’s baby ornaments (such as baby’s first Christmas, second Christmas, etc). It’s in a little nook at the top of my stairs next to my bookshelf, so I can enjoy it while I peruse for my next read!
Last but not least, my bookshelf was spruced up with a lighted strand of garland to brigthen up my mini-library for the holidays! (Also, apologies for the bad lighting…we’re in the middle of a storm and it’s quite dark for mid-afternoon).
Do you decorate for the holidays? Does your family have any specific holiday decorating traditions? Ours always go up the weekend immediately following Thanksgiving! I hope you enjoyed my little feature- I love seeing how creative others get with their decorating!
WOW – your house looks like it is out of a catalogue. Looks gorgeous!! We decorate but only with a few trinkets about and our Xmas tree…. Decorations we collect from our travels 🙂
Thanks for sharing your home sweet home!
Thank you! Your decorations sound fantastic though- every ornament has its own story behind it!
Those are some pretty impressive Christmas trees! (not to mention the bookshelf full of books!) Unfortunately, my place is a bit small for a tree, but Christmas day is usually spent at my uncle’s place, and he puts decorations up every December. My workplace tends to get into the spirit of things too, with tinsel and whatnot here and there
I love decorations in the workplace, it definitely helps to bring the holiday cheer into your daily work routine!
Whoa your house looks AWESOME. The decorations are really sweet and I love how each tree has a little theme. But whoa, those fireplaces are amazing! They look like they’re out of an old Dickens novel or Hogwarts or some kind of cool Victorian house. 🙂
Your house is putting mine to shame, we only just bought the tree two days ago and there’s no decorations up whatsoever. I still can’t wait for Christmas though!
I never really thought about my fireplaces that way, but they seem much more exciting now that you’ve pointed it out!
Your house and the decorations are just beautiful! Happy holidays!
Thank you!
