This week’s TTT post is all about those coveted 2016 releases that we had every intention of getting to…but for some reason didn’t. This is perfect timing for me, as I am in the process of completely restructuring my Goodreads system and committed to making and sticking to a more regulated TBR schedule in 2017. Below are the ten 2016 releases I most regret not getting to, and I’m aiming to read all of them before 2017 is over!
Did any of the above books end up on your list of 2016 reads you didn’t get to? Would you recommend prioritizing any of these reads over others? Let me know in the comments!
You have so many that didn’t make my ist that I wanted to read too – Kindred Spirits, Firsts, The Secret of a Heart Note and since I just recently read Illuminae, Gemina. Hope you get to these all!
Thank you Grace! Best of luck to you as well…although to be honest I’m already fairly distracted with all of the books that have come out in 2017 so far and it’s only two weeks into the new year!
I’d like to read The Secret of a Heart Note but I think it’s only just come out here!
Yes it actually came out RIGHT at the end of 2016! It sort of flew under my radar to be honest until recently. I’m reading it now and it’s really unique!
Reading Crooked Kingdom now! and I love it!
So many books last year and so little time! Also in my case I was not in the mood of reading a lot, I am getting older and I get too tired that when I sit to read I fall sleep ?
My TTT.
YES I used to be able to read for hours once I got in bed but now I’m prone to falling asleep like 10 pages in lol
Firsts and Stars Above are on my list too. I really need to read them! I hope you enjoy these books when you get around to them.
Thank you Chrissi! Firsts is a high priority read for me this year, as the topic is so interesting and it’s refreshing to see such strong debuts, as I’ve heard many positive things about it!
Lady Midnight is on my list as well. I need to get to it ASAP.
The length of it is definitely a bit intimidating, which I think is why I’ve been procrastinating on it a bit!
LADY MIDNIGHT!!! Lol, that was one of my favourites from last year. It was exactly what I wanted the new series to be.
I really wanted to get to Firsts last year as well. I’m definitely reading Stalking Jack the Ripper this year–I’ve made it a priority read.
I’m so glad to hear that you liked Lady Midnight! I feel like in some ways I’ve been putting it off because it’s SO HUGE and I’m a little nervous about not loving it as much as I loved TMI and TID, especially since I read them so long ago now.
I was the exact same way. I had been waiting for it for years and I’ll admit, it took me a bit to get reoriented with the world, but it was so, so worth it!
I’m glad to hear it! I’ll have to get to it soon! 🙂
I hope you get a chance to read all these. I need to read Kindred Spirits too.
Thank you! I definitely need to acquire it and read it so I can round out my Rainbow Rowell collection.
The Long Game is so intense! Crooked Kingdom is great too!
I’ve heard such positive things about the Long Game! I need to read it before the events of The Fixer fade from my mind too much…
Crooked Kingdom was fantastic – I absolutely recommend it.
Stars Above would be easy enough to give a miss if you wanted.
My boyfriend is currently reading Crooked Kingdom, so as soon as he is finished I will be stealing it from him to read! I’ve heard mixed things about Stars Above, but since I own the entire series I feel sort of obligated to read it for a sense of closure…
So many people talking about Stalking Jack, I just might have to pick it up. I am doing the Biannual Biblitiothon on Booktube and that is the group book.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Stalking Jack as well! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
I 100% insist that you read Crooked Kingdom! It was really incredible, and I loved the way Leigh developed her characters and finished off that series. The Secret of a Heart Note, on the other hand, was an absolute delight and I hope you enjoy it when you read it!
Of the books on your list, I actually also have Stars Above on my list of books to read this year. I pre-ordered it, but never got around to reading it in 2016, which is a shame! Here’s to hoping we both get around to reading it this year.
I know, it’s been staring at me from Max’s shelves (he’s still in the middle of reading it! Then I will steal it!) I need to buy stars above so I have the whole Lunar Chronicles series, although I hope that I remember enough from the original series for the short stories to have an impact.
Crooked Kingdom was so very good! I just read the sequel to Truthwitch and really think it’s improved on the first. The Long Game was so very good, but…but…but why can’t it be a series and not a duology? I hope you get a chance to read all of these this year and that you enjoy them!
I keep hearing that the long game ~may~ be a series??
I’m definitely in the same boat with Gemina and CK. I’m about halfway through them both, so *hopefully* I will finish them both soon. *knocks on every piece of wood in my room*
Hahaha those are both pretty big books to be in the middle of! I’m notorious for reading multiple books at the same time myself so I definitely feel you. I’m currently waiting for my bf to finish his copy of CK so I can read it next!
