Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a weekly meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts, and is a fantastic way to keep the Harry Potter magic alive year round, even when not reading the books!
The Theme This Week: Which Weasley Character Would You Be?
Bill was — there was no other word for it — cool.
(Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)
Though little page time is devoted to Bill until much later in the series, I was immediately taken with the idea of the eldest Weasley brother. Harry had heard Ron mention his older brother in ways that seemed remniscient of Percy: Head Boy, extremely intelligent, responsible, good career in the wizarding world. Yet upon meeting Bill in the fourth book, Harry is taken aback by the fact that Bill is quite the opposite of Percy, being very personable, laid back, and stylish. I love Bill because he reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. I’m very academically minded and love school and books, but I also have a lot of interests outside of that and I adore fashion and makeup (fun fact: if I didn’t have a book blog, I’d have a beauty blog). I love that Bill is a character who shows that intelligent and academically minded people don’t always fit the stereotypical bill, and just because you’re bookish doesn’t mean you’re boring! Plus, his job sounds pretty awesome, as he works for Gringotts as a curse breaker in Egypt. It would be so fascinating to work abroad and learn about different cultures (or in this case, other wizarding cultures, which I would LOVE to learn more about!) Also, Shell Cottage is absolute perfection.
Which Weasley character do you find to be your kindred spirit?
Love this! I always felt like not enough was said of Bill for me to really connect with him, but you’ve given it a different light! 🙂
Thank you! I really do wish more page time had been given to him and Charlie! (especially Charlie, I feel like I know virtually noting about him!)
Fred was always my favorite Weasley, but if I had to pick one to be, I think I’d pick Molly. Then I’d get to look after ALL of them! 🙂
That’s a really clever answer! Then you’d get to be surrounded by ALL of them! (And Harry!)
I was really sad we didn’t get a chance to see more about Bill throughout the series. He really seems like he has a lot going on that we don’t know about, and I completely agree that just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you’re boring. He seems like the kind of guy who makes following the rules seem cool, like he has just that little extra spark. Great pick!! I chose Molly for this week’s HP MOTW!
I’d like to read more about how he helped the Order in the last few books with reaching out to the goblins, it must have been difficult!
My favourite Weasley was definitely Ginny! I mean, just look at this conversation:
George: “Yeah, size is no guarantee of power. Look at Ginny.”
Harry: “What d’you mean?”
George: “You’ve never been on the receiving end of one of her Bat-Bogey Hexes, have you?”
I like to think of myself that way: small, but deadly. Except that would probably be only in a book XD I can barely handle a knife 😉
I have to remember not to immediately compare Ginny with the movie character, because she’s way more awesome in the books (in the film she was kind of Meh and her character wasn’t very developed) so I feel like it causes me to underestimate her!
Exactly – she’s only even properly brought in the movir when her romance with Harry begins. Otherwise, Ginny forever in the books <3
I have no idea which Weasley I’d be, I’m more like Luna lol, but Bill is a great character and I remember meeting him and being surprised that he was so different than what I expected. My sister would definitely be Charlie studying Dragons though. 🙂
Charlie! Now I feel he was really the Weasley character who JKR kept the most hidden from us!
This MOTW meme is simply superb. Can’t resist putting in my thought even if I might be a bit late. I think Bill would be an interesting character to be, in fact there should have been more writings about the Weasleys. But I think I would be one of the twins – most probably George Weasley. I relate very much to the mischief in them and would have very much loved to create chaos in Hogwarts!
