Monthly TBR Plan: June 2018

I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR. Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 41/80 Books Read Can we all marvel at the fact that 2018 IS ALMOST HALFWAY OVER?! WHERE HAS THE YEAR GONE??? […]

Giving Scribd Another Shot

So if you’ve been around the blog recently, you’ll notice that I’ve recently (as in, since 2018) become a fan of audio books. I talked about my struggles with them years ago, and then recently shared my revelations about how I’ve gotten them to work for me (listening to them through my bluetooth portable speaker while I do chores around the house has been a godsend). While I love Overdrive and have been using that as the source for most of my audio books, I find that the selections available through my local library can be slow to update and […]

Beyond the Books: Yoga

As much as I love reading and book blogging, I have a variety of interests outside of those hobbies that I love to chat about and share with others. I started Beyond the Books as a way to take a break from bookish content and feature some of my other favorite things! I really owe this whole post to Kristin from Super Space Chick, because after stumbling upon her own yoga related blog post one day, I discovered Yoga with Adriene, the Youtube channel that I can safely say is changing my life. After reading Kristin’s post about how Adriene’s […]

YALLWEST Round 4: Senior Year

YALLWEST Round 4: Senior Year

I’ve been blessed enough to be able to attend YALLWEST since its inaugural year in 2015, and returned again this month for its fourth year (“senior year,” if you will) in sunny Santa Monica. The festival was a bit more hectic that usual for me due to work commitments as it happened a bit later than it usually does, however we still ended up making it and catching up with our book squad from last year and having a fantastic time! Each year more and more publishers and vendors come out for the west coast event and it was great […]

What I’ve Been Watching Lately [2]

Inspired by Lauren @ Bookmarklit, I’ve been wanting to incorporate some more non-bookish things into my blog. Since Netflix is practically a hobby in and of itself these days, I am tagging along on her feature on showcasing what I’ve been watching lately! It’s been a while since I featured that I’ve been watching lately, and now that spring is here I thought it would be fun to feature the shows I’ve added to my tv rotation this season. I’m still watching the shows from my last post (Dynasty, Jane the Virgin, and Riverdale) so I’m only going to be […]

Eight Highly Rated Books I Was Underwhelmed By

Eight Highly Rated Books I Was Underwhelmed By

I recently hopped on the “Low Rated Books I Loved” post bandwagon and had TONS of fun doing it, and was always curious as to how the inverse would work. What books are really hyped on Goodreads that I felt more “meh” about? I followed the same method as last time- I went to my Goodreads “read” shelf, sorted it by average rating (this time from highest to lowest), and chose the first eight books that popped up that received below four star ratings from me (only including books that popped up that I’ve read since I began blogging back […]

Eight Low Rated Books That I Loved

Eight Low Rated Books That I Loved

After seeing Madalyn do this post a while ago (and since then a few other bloggers too!) I knew I wanted to jump in and do it myself! I followed Madalyn’s method: I went to my Goodreads “read” shelf, sorted it by average rating from lowest to highest, and chose the first eight (rather than ten- I wanted to choose relevant titles) books that popped up that received four- or five-star ratings from me. I’m only including books that I’ve read since I started blogging back in 2014. This post was actually a lot of fun to put together, and […]

YA Set In College | A Growing (& Needed) Trend

YA Set In College | A Growing (& Needed) Trend

One thing that ALWAYS thrills me as a reader and blogger is coming across a YA books set in college. There’s just really not enough, and it’s such an important, formative time in the young adult experience. I’ve seen a lot of NA books set in college however they’re usually super romance focused and not as focused on the actual college transition. I decided to round up some of my favorite YA books with college settings and note some of the elements of the college experience they include. American Panda | Just One Day | Frat Girl | Fangirl While […]
