Ah, the beginning of the year when a new TBR means a fresh start and we’re not yet crushed under the weight of our increasingly unattainable Goodreads Challenge 😀
In all seriousness, I enjoy making my monthly TBRs, and I find when I make the effort to make them I am pretty likely to read a majority of them! I’m taking a bit of a different approach this year than in years past: instead of just selecting books based on my mood or release date, I’m adding in a randomly selected library and KU title. I feel like when I add things to my wishlists for both services, they go into a black hole. So I decided to transcribe them into a spreadsheet (yes, this took FOREVER) and then use a random number generator to a book from each list. I’m hoping this helps with the choice paralysis that can come with backlist books especially! I also have a tab for backlist ARCs (which are much fewer but admittedly still a handful that I need to get to from the past) that I hope to incorporate into this sytem.
This month’s randomly selected reads were Loveboat Reunion (Libby/Library- nervous since I don’t remember much from the previous book in this series) and Nameless (KU- I haven’t tried a book by Clare Kent before). Neither one is a book I think I would have organically picked up on my own this month, so I may see more DNFs using this system if they don’t fit my mood. However, I’m seeing that as a positive outcome as I tend not to DNF much which I think slows my reading down/causes me to fall into reading slumps.
For my intentionally selected reads, And Now, Back To You is releasing soon so it made sense (and I’m LOVING it so far!). The Strength of the Few is a chunky, fantasy/sci-fi sequel that I forced myself to start because I’m afraid if I don’t read it ASAP (it came out in November) I never will due to its size and density. Frost just sounded like a fund winter read and I’m here for anything Bachelor-style, and Warrior, Princess Assassin I just see recommended a lot (though if my library hold will come in on time for the month, who knows…)
