I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR.
Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 77/80 Books Read
Ah, here we are, the final month of the year. We are finally closing out the dumpster fire that is 2018 (although I feel like we’ve all been referring to each year this way since 2016…). I struggled with putting together a TBR for this month because I sort of feel like it’s do-or-die time with it being the last month of the year and all, so this month’s TBR is basically themed “I am going to read whatever the heck I want, consequences be damned.”
Owned
Empire of Storms // Honestly, I have been really enjoying my TOG reread and it’s pretty much all I want to do when I pick up a book these days, lol. I remember EOS being sort of a slog the first time I read it and I didn’t rate it super high since it took me a month to finish, but I was also reading it during a super busy time at work which I think may have impacted my feelings because I’m really liking it my second time reading it!
Queen of Air and Darkness // Can you BELIEVE it’s already time for this one to be released??? I received the beautiful, giant tome in the mail already thanks to pre-ordering and I’m excited to dive in once I read some recaps of Lady Midnight and Lord of Shadows!
My Favorite Half Night-Stand // I fell in love with Christina Lauren’s writing after reading Roomies so I pre-ordered their newest book and am hoping for some swoons and laughs!
Scribd
The Afterlife of Holly Chase // Since it’s December what better time to read a Christmas-sy story? I’m also super intrigued by the fact that this isn’t your typical Christmas romance (which most Christmas stories seem to be) and it’s more Scrooge focused.
Library
Blanca Y Roja // I’ve only read one book by Anna-Marie McLemore but it was so lyrical and beautiful. This one focuses on retellings of several fairy tales (including Swan Lake!!) so I’m super excited for it!
Tower of Dawn // So given my disdain for Chaol I don’t WANT to read this book, but figure I should at least give it a shot to prepare me for KOA since I’ll have reread all of the other books in the series by that point!
For Review
A Heart in a Body in the World // I received an ARC of this one at YALLWEST this year and while it isn’t a book I’ve seen talked about often, when I have read reviews they’ve all been overwhelming positive. I’m also intrigued to read a book about a runner, as I’ve recently gotten into running the past few years and am looking forward to a book focused on the hobby!
The Au Pair // I’m always on the hunt for a good thriller and was excited to be approved for this one on Netgalley!
Are any of these on your TBR? What’s your most anticipated book for December? Let me know in the comments!
I gave up on THRONE OF GLASS temporarily, I think I just wasn’t in the mood to start a new fantasy series! I’m going back to Harry Potter for the time being ?But I’m rootin’ for you to meet your reading goal for this year!!! I know you’ll read at least three books this month 🙂
(And by Netflix, do you mean Netgalley?)
Ah yes Netgalley! Typo lol. I’m chugging along through the TOG books. I haven’t reread HP since 2014, I miss the stories however ever since this whole extended canon with Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts have happened I just haven’t been able to get on board with all the new stuff!
I’ve never heard of The Au Pair but THAT COVER! I haven’t read a good thriller in a while (unless you count my extremely slow read of It by Stephen King) so that’s definitely going on my TBR. Best of luck getting through all of these, Cristina!
Laura @BlueEyeBooks
I’ve heard it is SUPER long, so good for you for getting through it! It’s so hard to find good thrillers and I have to admit I find that they’re often better in movie format than book format.
Ooh, I’m really looking forward to The Au Pair!
I’m hoping to get to it within the next week, I’m hoping it’s a good thriller (they can be so hit and miss)!
I love love love Blanca y Roja and I’m so happy you called it Blanca y Roja. Anna-Marie McLemore’s writing is always so enchanting and this one is no exception. I hope you end up loving it as much as I did.
I love that she writes magical realism with Latinx characters! I adored The Weight of Feathers but I haven’t had a chance to read anything else by her until now!
I really like Deb Caletti so I’m hoping to read that one. I also have heard a lot of good, emotional things about it!! Also, I can’t believe the Shadowhunters books are still going on– wow.
It’s AMAZING. I’m surprised I had NEVER heard of her until I received this ARC, I’m really interested in checking out her other books now! Which of her books do you recommend?
Okay I loved Holly Chase – it was so different and fascinating! I can’t wait to hear what you think.
It’s such a cool twist on the classic Christmas tale, I love how corporate-y it is so far LOL
A Heart in a Body in the World is gonna for sure get the number one spot on my year-end favorites list. It’s INCREDIBLE. I finished QOAAD last week and I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO READ IT so we can discuss!! I’m also hoping to get to Holly Chase this month!
I’m so excited for QOAAD too! Do you think it’s necessary to reread the first two books in the series? they’re SO LONG but I’m scared I won’t be able to fully appreciate QOAAD/miss things if I don’t reread the other books in the series first!
Ahh, I definitely fell off on my Cassandra Clare reading — I feel like I’m definitely due for a re-read, but sometimes I get intimidated by the sheer size and magnitude of her books out there. But I just know that once I start, I’m not going to be able to stop.
Yes I’m definitely behind as well! Especially on all of the short stories she’s published, and I know there’s going to be a NEW series she’s starting in 2019 too! So much to catch up on- her books are going to be my reread priority this year once I finally finish the Throne of Glass series!
