Top Ten Books of 2020

Top Ten Books of 2020

December is one of my favorite months for blogging because there’s so many fun wrap-up posts to be made and read! Arguably the ~most important~ is the best books of the year lists that everyone comes up with! While this year I didn’t read quite as many books as I had hoped to, I did read many excellent books and the amount of 5 star reads I read this year is over double that of last year! I am thrilled to say that every single book on my “best of” list for 2020 was a strong 5 star rating for […]

The Future of Girl in the Pages | 2021 & Beyond

There’s no denying that 2020 has been quite the year. Everyone from every facet in my life has admitted to being burned out, whether it be with work, school, blogging, reading, etc. Just two-ish months into a shiny new decade and everything we knew was flipped upside down, and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that this year has made me reevaluate things. 2020 has made me lean into the unexpected little joys that I love (inside jokes with my husband, old reality tv, organizing my home, etc) and dread things I didn’t realize I would find so difficult […]

2020 DNFs: My Year of Failed Romance

2020 DNFs: My Year of Failed Romance

2020 may have been many things, but it was certainly a year where I did my best to not pressure myself to read books that I wasn’t feeling. When everything else was so stressful and gloomy, there was no need for reading to be something I was dreading too! However, more often than not I found myself setting aside romance novels than any other genre, a trend I was not anticipating. ALL of my DNFs this year were romance novels, which hurts my heart because I used to adore the genre (I even DNF’d books by authors I had read […]

November 2020 TBR

I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR. Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 65/85* Books Read *RIP, I finally admitted defeat that 100 books was NOT happening this year due to, well, EVERYTHING 2020 […]

What I’m Loving From Trader Joe’s Lately

Fall is here and that means a plethora of seasonal favorites (both old and new!) have arrived at Trader Joe’s! With COVID, I haven’t eaten out since March and have been exploring a lot more foods I can eat/prepare at home, and I’ve been trying a lot more things, especially from Trader Joe’s. I’ve rounded up my fall favorites in the post below! Apple Blossoms I am absolutely in love with these little, self serve apple pies. I’m more of an apple dessert person than pumpkin (though there are many of pumpkin items on my list today!) and one of […]

National Hispanic Heritage Month Book Recommendations

National Hispanic Heritage Month Book Recommendations

Another wonderful element of the autumn season is that it coincides with Hispanic Heritage month, which runs from September 15th-October 15th. In recent years I’ve seen so much for Latinx/Hispanic representation in YA  and Adult novels and it’s something that I try to stay on top of, aiming for at least 10% of the books I read each year to feature Latinx protagonists/be written by Latinx authors. As a biracial,  Latinx woman (my mother’s side of the family is from El Salvador) I love seeing representation of Latinx culture in the books I’m reading, and wish it had been as […]

I Want to Read More Adult!

I Want to Read More Adult!

It’s no secret that I read a LOT of YA. I did start out as a YA book blog, after all! While I do read adult fiction too, it’s typically all in the romance genre, rather than the contemporary/literary fiction genre. Due to working remotely for the foreseeable future, my team at work has decided to start a virtual book club, and the general tastes of the books being suggested is definitely along the lines of contemporary adult fiction. In reading the synopsis of some of the suggested books, I realize I’ve definitely been out of the loop lately with […]

Month in Review: July 2020

Well I’ll admit, it’s been a minute since I posted a monthly recap. Since March 2020, to be exact. The reason being that literally my days are all pretty much the exact same. Wake up, work, exercise, watch tvs/read, go to bed, Rinse, lather, repeat. I’m not complaining- I know I am SO lucky to have a house I can quarantine in and that my job is remote so I don’t have to go out for work, but it also hasn’t been the most conducive to talking about my life lately because I just feel like everything has been more […]
