National Hispanic Heritage Month Book Recommendations

National Hispanic Heritage Month Book Recommendations

Another wonderful element of the autumn season is that it coincides with Hispanic Heritage month, which runs from September 15th-October 15th. In recent years I’ve seen so much for Latinx/Hispanic representation in YA  and Adult novels and it’s something that I try to stay on top of, aiming for at least 10% of the books I read each year to feature Latinx protagonists/be written by Latinx authors. As a biracial,  Latinx woman (my mother’s side of the family is from El Salvador) I love seeing representation of Latinx culture in the books I’m reading, and wish it had been as […]

I Want to Read More Adult!

I Want to Read More Adult!

It’s no secret that I read a LOT of YA. I did start out as a YA book blog, after all! While I do read adult fiction too, it’s typically all in the romance genre, rather than the contemporary/literary fiction genre. Due to working remotely for the foreseeable future, my team at work has decided to start a virtual book club, and the general tastes of the books being suggested is definitely along the lines of contemporary adult fiction. In reading the synopsis of some of the suggested books, I realize I’ve definitely been out of the loop lately with […]

tbr selections inspired by folklore

tbr selections inspired by folklore

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been streaming folklore nonstop since it’s drop in late July, soaking in the lyrics, the stories, the sounds and unable to turn it off even when you’re not listening to it. I’ll admit I’m surprised that I like it so much considering I didn’t really become a Taylor fan until 1989 (aside from liking the occasional single from her country albums- Love Story is a bop). So I thought, why not channel my obsession with the album’s melancholy tones that perfectly match my quarantine mood with some selections from my TBR? It ended up […]

TTT: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020

TTT: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020

I adore making lists of upcoming releases I’m excited for (and reading those of others!) and I couldn’t resist linking up with Top Ten Tuesday this week to talk about the releases I’m most excited for that are coming out the latter part of this year (and having something positive to look forward to for the rest 2020 is a huge help!) I feel like I say this every year but there are SO many amazing titles coming out, I think the lineup gets better and better each year! If you’re interested in checking out my most anticipated releases from […]

Substitute Summer Vacation Reads

Substitute Summer Vacation Reads

I know I certainly didn’t expect 2020 to take the turn that it has, and in the name of social distancing and social responsibility, I am sure many of us have had to cancel or postpone plans. Personally, Max and I have had to cancel attending two weddings (the weddings themselves were cancelled too), a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean (I would be on it at the moment of writing this post, sigh) and our one year wedding anniversary trip to Disneyworld (we were going to stay at the new Grand Destino Tower resort). Though I recognize we are very […]

2020 Releases I’m Most Anticipating! (First Half)

2020 Releases I’m Most Anticipating! (First Half)

One of my FAVORITE posts to write and read are posts highlighting new upcoming releases! I know I say this EVERY YEAR but this upcoming year looks like it’s going to have some phenomenal new releases- which is amazing and a testament to how large and diverse the book community is becoming! For 2020, there are actually quite a few adult books that are making my list along with YA, which I hope also helps me keep my reading momentum up, as I find switching up genre and target audience for books can help me from getting into a slump. […]

Girl in the Pages Best of 2019 | A TTT Post

Girl in the Pages Best of 2019 | A TTT Post

I can’t believe another year has gone by and it’s time for another “best of” roundup! This year I decided to focus on my top ten reads of the year, and most of these books have 5 star or strong 4 star ratings. These books aren’t all 5 stars because I wanted to focus on the books that really stuck with me regardless of how I rated them! This year almost all of my favorite reads were from 2019, which is a change from last year where I chose a few more back list titles. I also read a lot […]

What’s On My Library List [3]

What’s On My Library List is an original feature I started to highlight some of my most anticipated reads I have on hold through my local library that I am eagerly waiting for! Is it just me or are there SO MANY amazing new releases coming out this fall? I recently finally tried out the Libby app and it led to me putting a LOT of library books on hold (I avoided it for a while because I was like UGH ANOTHER APP? Also I still don’t really understand why both it and Overdrive are a thing…) The interface is […]

What’s On My Library List [2]

What’s On My Library List is an original feature I started to highlight some of my most anticipated reads I have on hold through my local library that I am eagerly waiting for!   I’ve decided it’s the perfect time to return to this feature I launched last year as I add digital library books to my holds list in preparation for my honeymoon! I am a total e-book fiend when it comes to vacation and my Kindle is my constant companion on airplanes, by the pool, etc. I’m hoping most of these will come in time for me to […]

Top 10 Releases on My Radar for 2019 | A Final List!

Top 10 Releases on My Radar for 2019 | A Final List!

Earlier this year I rounded up some of my most anticipated contemporary and historical fiction releases for 2019, and while I am still SO EXCITED for those books, I realized I never did a final top ten list across all genres! I really enjoyed looking back on my 2018 top ten most anticipated releases and seeing how they panned out for me, so I decided better late than never to round up my top ten anticipated releases of 2019, right? The Everlasting Rose | I screamed about The Belles being my favorite, favorite fantasy novel of 2018 (and definitely in […]
