I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR.
Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 60/80 Books Read
Real Talk: I’m SUPER behind on my TBR/reading in general lately- between work and wedding planning, there hasn’t been time for much else! I’m hoping to get some good books in during September to get me excited about reading again!
Next Year in Havana // I was on the wait list for this one through Overdrive for a while, and I finally decided to bite the bullet and treat myself to it. I was pretty bummed when my first copy from Amazon arrived with the cover completely bent in half (hello, salty packaging feedback) but I received a replacement and have since started it. It’s SO GOOD and resonates a lot with me as a child of a Central American immigrant. I think this one’s going to be magic!
Stalking Jack the Ripper // Picked this one up during a crazy Amazon sale last year and have been waiting for the perfect time to read it! With the fall season starting it’s a perfect fit for my upcoming fall TBR.
Strange the Dreamer // I went to see Laini on tour when this one came out and in typical book blogger fashion, never got around to it. I want to see her on tour for Muse of Nightmares next month, so in order to prepare I’m hoping to (finally) read the first book in the series!
What If It’s Us // I was SO STOKED when I picked up an ARC this spring at YALLWEST (during a rather intense Epic Reads event and associated raffle) and I can’t believe its release date is right around the corner! I’m hoping to get to it ASAP because I finally read Simon this year and LOVED it, and I want to see the authors on tour next month too!
Always and Forever, Lara Jean // So this is a carry over from last month, and I’m a few hours into the audiobook already, and I have to say I’m a little underwhelmed. I think it’s because I am NOT a fan of Peter K (I think Lara Jean deserves better *coughteamJohnAmbrosecough*) and it doesn’t really feel like there’s a huge plot yet, but I’m enjoying spending time again with the Song-Covey household!
Heretics Anonymous // If you’ve been a reader of my blog for a while, you know that I’m a fiend for any YA books that tackle the topic of religion (it’s what I studied in college, after all) so when I got wind of this story that follows a group of misfits at a Catholic school, I was intrigued. Also, I love the subtle joke of the cover (you know the stereotype of people seeing images of Jesus in their toast)?
The Best Man // This one was recommended to me by Lauren, when I was whining to her over Twitter DMs about how I missed the Black Dog Bay series so much! This series apparently has a similar vibe so I decided to check it out based on her recommendation (although we JUST both found out a new Black Dog Bay book popped up on NetGalley and couldn’t hit the request button fast enough)!
Listen To Me // I’ve been on a bit of an adult romance kick lately and somehow came across this series and thought it looked intriguing (it’s about a group of independent business women who own a restaurant, what’s not to love?) however I’ve started it and it’s honestly heading into cheese town pretty fast. Like there’s so much sexual tension between the characters already and they barely know each other and are just constantly inner monologue-ing about how attractive they find the other while being snarky in real life and it’s all I can do to roll my eyes. I’m really hoping it picks up so I don’t have to DNF.
Are any of these on your TBR? What’s your most anticipated book for September? Let me know in the comments!
Ohh, Strange the Dreamer is AMAZING, I hope you love it even half as much as I did! I also really enjoyed Heretics, Anonymous. It was hilarious!
Heretics Anonymous was so good, and I feel like it’s slipped under the radar for so many folks! I can’t wait to get to Strange the Dreamer, I just have to get past the daunting size and finally crack it open!
I hope you enjoy Stalking Jack the Ripper! I Finally got around to that myself earlier this year and it was great!
It took me a while to finish it but overall I enjoyed it! Ideally I want to binge the next two books so I can just do a series review all at once!
I need to finish the Lara Jean series too!! I am so behind on that!! I loveqdddd the movie and it’s given me an extra kick to finally do it!!
I FINALLY finished it via audio and honestly the last book dragged a lot for me- it was cute but it was definitely basically all filler!
What If It’s Us was super cute!
It was! Arthur is one of my new favorite fictional characters! (No surprise there though, I love Albertalli’s writing!)
I did the exact same thing with Strange the Dreamer and now need to get to it before Taylor comes here on tour for the sequel!
I am ashamed to say I still haven’t gotten to it yet…so many books, so little time!
I really want to read Heretics Anonymous, it looks like a fun book! I hope you’ll enjoy Strange the Dreamer!
It’s really great and underrated if you ask me, I highly recommend it!
