Monthly TBR Plan: August 2018

Posted August 8, 2018 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Features, TBR / 22 Comments

I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR.

Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 55/80 Books Read

Ok, I’m sorry but how is it August? AUGUST?! We are approaching the last quarter of the year here soon! AKA more and more books are popping up for 2019 and I am like I’VE BARELY MADE A DENT IN MY 2018 TBR *sobs* Anyways, while I am book-stressing, I’m also really excited for a LOT of the books I am planning on reading in the latter half of the year, and am hoping to maybe, possibly hit 100 books rather than 80?? We’ll see how it goes!

Owned

Catwoman // So I’m not a huge super hero person, but I’ve always been intrigued by Selina Kyle (looooved Anna Hathaway’s portrayal, BTW) and I will read anything written by my queen SJMaas so I’m excited for this stand alone!

Crown of Midnight // So I’m SLOWLY trying to reread the Throne of Glass series from the beginning before Kingdom of Ash is released this fall. While I doubt I’ll be ready in time for the new book’s release, I’m hoping to read at least 1 book from the series per month and have them all finished by the end of the year, so this month’s pick is Crown of Midnight! (Where the series begins to get good, TBH)

For Review

Sadie // It’s no secret that the world is obsessed with true crime lately, and I personally was SHOOK after I finally listened to the first podcast season of Serial. So I was delighted to find Sadie on NetGalley, a novel with a true crime premise that actually features a podcast following Sadie’s journey and search for her missing sister. I actually just received an email from Wednesday books and it looks like they’re actually going to do a companion podcast to go with this novel, which I think is a really cool and innovative idea!

Seventh Born // I’m a lover of all things witch-y, so I’m excited to try this paranormal read from Entangled Teen! It’s also a good read to transition my TBR from summer to more fall-type reads.

Toil & Trouble // So I am so excited that YA anthologies are becoming more of a thing, and this one is about WITCHES so OF COURSE I had to request it via NetGalley. I’m so excited to read this one and start getting myself into the mood for fall! There are also some awesome YA authors in this anthology’s line up, and some that I haven’t read yet but am really excited to try!

P.S. I Still Love You // So I can’t believe I once DNF’d To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before because I listened to it this summer on audio and it was PERFECTION. These books have such an AESTHETIC and I love Lara Jean and her adorable, feminine, smol cinnamon role life. I’m hoping to binge the rest of the series this month via audio so I can be prepared for the Netflix original movie being released later on this month. Also, the narrator for these books is fantastic!

Always and Forever, Lara Jean // See above!

Library

Little Fires Everywhere // This one has been SO HYPED. I put a library hold on it MONTHS ago (I think I was like 160-something in the hold queue) and forgot about it and then it came in! It was actually perfect because I wasn’t dying to read it and since my TBR is forever growing I didn’t mind waiting for this one, which seems to have that Stepford Wives-esque premise of exposing the scandalous underbelly of a seemingly idyllic suburban community. I also haven’t read any non-romance adult fiction in a while so this will be a nice addition to my end of summer TBR.

Are any of these on your TBR? What’s your most anticipated book for August? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Oh, as always, you have some great books on deck for this month! I’m so happy you’re continuing the Lara Jean trilogy; it’s one of my all-time favorites. Sadie was SO good and so compulsively readable. Toil and Trouble is my most-anticipated release for this month and I cannot wait to get my hands on it! Imo, Celeste Ng’s books completely live up to the hype. Good luck with your reading this month, Cristina!

  2. I am really curious about the Catwoman book; I’ll be excited to finally read some reviews and see what people think. I also SO need to read Sadie – true crime is fascinating to me.

  3. Oh yay, I’m so glad you fell for Lara Jean. I love her so much. I just finished the series myself in anticipation of the movie. I am beyond stoked for it. I really want to read Toil & Trouble, but think I will wait for October because it’s the perfect time to pick it up. Enjoy all the books!

    • Thanks Alicia! I’m almost done with the audio of PS I Still Love You and I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out of Song girl books! They’re just so wholesome and diverse and a little surprising all at the same time!
