I’ve made a lot of reading resolutions, and one of them is to be better about cultivating a monthly TBR. I know so many bloggers do beginning of the month TBR posts and I always LOVE reading them, so I’ve decided to post my own as well! I will include my physical, e-book, and ARC TBRs as well as a status update of where I am prior to starting my upcoming month’s TBR.
Reading Progress Prior To This Month: 47/80 Books Read
So I think I totally jinxed myself in June because I was SO proud of reading 10 books in May, and since then my reading really plummeted in June with lots of travel and wedding planning and just generally reading slumping going on. I think I had too many books on my plate that I felt like I “had” to read and not enough that I truly wanted to read. I’m going into July with more of a balanced mix and am hoping to get my reading back up!

Keeping the Moon // It wouldn’t be summer without a few Sarah Dessen rereads, and I’m hoping to finish off rereading all the ones I didn’t get to last year. I’m hoping to go in chronological order and Keeping the Moon is the first on my list! I’m also in love with this cover and excited to return to Colby.
This Lullaby // Keeping with the Dessen theme, I’m hoping to reread all of her books that I haven’t read in the past few years this summer, and This Lullaby is one of them. I know this is one of her most popular, and I weirdly remember the very beginning but pretty much nothing else about this book. I think my last read of this was in middle school, so I’m really excited to return to it with fresh eyes!
The Moon and More // I think this is the only Dessen book that I to date have not read, so I’m excited to get to truly experience it for the first time! This one seems to have super mixed reviews so I’m crossing my fingers that I like it!
For Review
The Good Luck Charm // I am ecstatic to read this one early! I love a good adult romance book, especially to break up all of the YA I read, and this one looks really cute. I haven’t read a romance in a while with a couple trying to make things work years later but it’s a fun premise (and not one usually found in YA) and I’m excited to get to know Ethan and Liliah!
Wrong in All the Right Ways // I had no idea when I initially added this one to my TBR that it was a Wuthering Heights retelling, but now that I know I am stoked (I haven’t actually read Wuthering Heights, but I love books that are subtle retellings). This one deals with the foster care system and undoubtedly with focus on some tough and important topics.
Toil & Trouble // So I am so excited that YA anthologies are becoming more of a thing, and this one is about WITCHES so OF COURSE I had to request it via NetGalley. I’m so excited to read this one and start getting myself into the mood for fall! There are also some awesome YA authors in this anthology’s line up, and some that I haven’t read yet but am really excited to try!
Grim Lovelies // If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw me flailing over the gorgeous ARC box I received for this stunning new title from HMH team. I’m SO ready for this french inspired dark fantasy.

9 Days and 9 Nights // I read the rather controversial 99 days by Katie Cotugno last month and really enjoyed the drama and messy relationship dynamics, and I’m really interested to see the author carry on Molly’s story seeing how the last book left everything so open ended. Plus I’m excited for the European setting!
Are any of these on your TBR? What’s your most anticipated book for July? Let me know in the comments!
So much Dessen! I need to continue my first read through of her books- I think the next one up for me is This Lullaby!
Her books are perfect for summer! I’m actually really excited to get to some of these that are more in the “middle” of her backlist because I think those are the best!
I am really excited for Grim Lovelies. I have yet to read a book by Megan Shepard, but I’ve heard great things. Happy reading!
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian
I haven’t read anything by Megan Shepard yet either but I have her Madman’s Daughter series on my TBR. It seems like she captures a really gothic tone in her books that I’m excited for!
9 Days and 9 Nights made my TBR too!! Hopefully, I get to it. Happy reading!
I’m almost done with the audio and really enjoying it! I love the messy dynamics that the authors puts in her novels.
Like you, I rather enjoyed the mess of relationships and the like of 99 Days. It was a pleasant surprise that I enjoyed it so much. So I’m really curious to read the sequel and I’m hoping I can get to it by the end of the summer. Dunno if I will do the audio version or not…I’m afraid I might get annoyed with the characters like I sometimes do with audiobooks.
Honestly the messiness is what I enjoyed most about the book! I’ve seen so many polarizing reviews but high school is honestly so often messy and complicated and unfair and 99 Days (and it’s sequel) captured it in a really unapologetic way that I haven’t seen before in YA!
I’m weirdly excited for you to re-read some Dessen. I need to do that soon!!! This Lullaby is my absolute favorite!!!!!! SO GOOD. I didn’t love The Moon and More, unfortunately, but it’s still worth reading if you’re a Dessen fan.

I’ve actually heard from a LOT of people that The Moon and More is rather disappointing, but it’s the only Dessen I haven’t read so I feel obligated (plus I love the beachy vibe the cover gives off!) Fingers crossed that I enjoy it!
Sarah Dessen books are the perfect summer reads! I’m in the middle of re-reading the His Dark Materials series, but am definitely planning to add some cute contemporaries into the mix.
I love rereading Sarah in the summer! I’m finding though that her books are a lot darker/heavier than I remembered!
