Christmas Recap & December 2017 Month in Review

Posted January 8, 2018 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Features, Month In Review / 8 Comments

There’s no denying that December recaps are my favorite because I get to focus on Christmas and all of it’s colorful, sparkly, and joyful glory. December means time off from work, cold weather, and more excuses to stay inside under my pile of blankets and read. This year was my third Christmas living with Max, and we actually had a pretty quite yet restful holiday- exactly what we needed after a super busy year!

Max unfortunately had a pretty bad cold Christmas weekend, so we spent most of it inside reading and watching tv (and binge watching Season 2 of the Crown!) I was off for a total of 12 days for the holidays (the most time I’ve ever been off from work) and it was really restorative! I love that time period between Christmas and New Year’s where you can just be blissfully unaware of what day it is. On Christmas Day we drove a few hours to visit my parents (where we’re pictured) and later in the week one of my best friends was back in town so I spent a lovely day with her! I unfortunately ended up getting sick on New Year’s Eve (I suspect some sort of food poisoning or stomach bug) and had to spend the whole day/evening in bed, which was a bummer since Max and I were going to do our customary dinner + movie. We joked that 2017 had to have it’s final say, lol 😉

As usual, Max was wonderful and bought me so many books this year! Many of them were on my wishlist but he also completely surprised me with the boxed set of the updated TMI paperbacks (I guess he’s seen me gazing at them longingly over the years in bookstores). He also got me Season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal which we promptly binge watched (not my favorite season, I will admit) and he rounded out my Sailor Moon manga collection.

Even though 2017 was a terrible year in so many ways, it was a strong year for me and Max personally, so we’re really excited to see what 2018 has in store for us!

  1. Max is the best! I’m so glad you had a good year together. I feel the same way with Chris, with moving around and really relying on each other through those changes. I can’t believe this but I got ZERO books for Christmas!! I guess that’s okay though because I used my Amazon gift cards to do some preordering afterwards 🙂 ALSO IT’S 2018 WHICH MEANS I’LL BE MEETING YOU IRL THIS YEAR HOWWWW

    • Honestly I’m lucky I get books for Xmas at all- Max is the only one who will buy them for me since everyone else thinks I have too many as it is lol! Ohhhh, I’d love to know which ones you’ve preordered! I actually haven’t preordered ANY books so far in 2018 aside from ACOFAS for my Kindle, as I’m relying more on the library this year since space for my books is getting tight!

ALSO YESSSS WE WILL FINALLY BE UNITED! Please let me know once you have more concrete details about your trip so I can plan mine accordingly! 🙂

  2. Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear you got sick on New Year’s Eve! That happened to me three years ago when I got to spend the holiday’s in London so I couldn’t go to the New Year’s party I had really looked forward to.

That TMI box set is GORGEOUS! I love box sets (mostly because of the matching covers) and I’ve been wanting to get the HP box set (the one with Hogwarts on the spines) for ages. I hope you have a lovely 2018, Cristina!

    • Oh no, getting sick when you are traveling is the WORST. It happened to me one Thanksgiving at Disneyland, so I’m hoping the likelihood of it ever happening to me again while I’m traveling has gone down lol. I am ALL ABOUT box sets, but I so rarely get to buy them these days because I usually read books as they’re released, but it was a nice splurge on a series I know I’ll reread eventually! I have the HP one you mentioned (Christmas gift from Max a few years ago) but I STILL haven’t taken it out of the plastic wrap- I’m scared to ruin them lol!
