Calm Down 2018, I See You | End of 2017 Priority TBR

Posted November 28, 2017 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Features, Top Ten Tuesday, Weekly Features/Memes / 18 Comments

Last year I did a post rounding up all of the books I really hoped to read/finish before the year came to a close, and I found it a fun way to keep me on track for my TBR, so I decided to go ahead and do it again this year! Writing the post also coincided quite nicely with this week’s TTT prompt over at The Broke and the Bookish (Top Ten Books on My Winter TBR). I’ve divided up the books I have left to read into three main categories, and while there are 11 books in total, I think I can squeeze in about 8 of them before the end of the year (I hope- as long as a major mood reading binge doesn’t kick in!)

2017 Releases

I pre-ordered a LOT of books this year and have been neglecting my fantasy books far too frequently. I’m hoping to give my fantasy reading a bit of a boost with these three before the end of the year!

Backlist Books/Rereads

Half of these are rereads (Passenger to get me prepped to read Wayfarer and California Dreaming to round out my A-List reread I did with Lauren earlier this year). I am hoping to finish the His Fair Assassin’s Trilogy by the end of the year to get ready for the next book that’s allegedly coming out in 2018 (!!!) as well as get through a few more Sailor Moon manga before I watch the English dub of season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal.

Library/For Review

Prince in Disguise and The Belles are ARCs from YallWest (reading Prince in Disguise right now and absolutely loving it!) The Disappearances is an ARC I need to get to that I started months ago but never finished. North of Happy was basically my own fault- I saw it on NetGalley and requested it not realizing the title was already archived, and was approved and now it’s counting against my NetGalley ratio (which I had at 80% prior to this) and so now I’m going to have to get my hands on it some other way in order to give feedback (has this happened to anyone before? Any tips/advice)?

Are any of the above books ones you’ve neglected to get to yet? What’s your number one book you’ve sworn that you’ll read before the end of 2017? Let me know in the comments!!

    • It’s really adorable! I was actually sad because my Goodreads 2017 year in review listed it as the “least popular” book I’ve read because it has the lowest number of reviews, but it’s really sweet and I hope more people get to it soon- I’m surprise it’s had such little buzz/hype!

  1. Strange the Dreamer is AMAZING. You’re going to love that book so I can’t wait for you to read it!!! Prince in Disguise sounds really good and like Grace, I’ve heard nothing about it either! Anytime a book has reality tv in the description, I’m in! The one book that I really want to read before the end of 2017 is Station Eleven. Last December I committed to reading it this year and I’m really running out of time!

    • I’m hoping to get to Strange the Dreamer soon! I’ve been slowly savoring Mortal Heart and I feel like once it’s over I’m still going to be in the mood for fantasy (as I typically am this time of year) and I’m trying to get through 7 more books before the month is over so I’m hoping to crank through my TBR over the holidays! Prince in Disguise is ADORABLE. I was actually sad because my Goodreads 2017 year in review listed it as the “least popular” book I’ve read because it has the lowest number of reviews, but it’s really sweet (and has a very authentic Scottish setting!)

    • I have to TOTALLY be in the right mood for short stories. I like the IDEA of them and always order the anthologies and then never read them lolololol.

Also yes, will be getting to CA Dreaming this month b/c I need quick reads to try and hit 80 books before end of year XD

  2. Eeep, The Language of Thorns was so gorgeously written and wonderful. I didn’t particularly like Strange the Dreamer as much as I anticipated, but it’s still well worth the read if you enjoy Laini Taylor’s writing. I have the audiobook for The Disappearances on hold at my library, so I hope that comes in soon! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Belles, too. Great list, Cristina! I hope you enjoy all of these! <3

  3. Wow, such a great list! Strange the Dreamer was awesome, and The Belles was good, though a tiny bit slow, still a good story. Also, as for North of Happy, you can just say that you didn’t realize it was archived, I have done that, and then it won’t count against your percentage anymore! I still need to read Passenger too, and Language of Thorns, and then like, 28723 other backlist books 😉 So I feel you! I hope you get to these, and that you enjoy them!

    • Honestly I started this series a year ago and only recently picked it up and it’s SO GOOD. I’ve been trying to indulge and read what I want, when I want lately (instead of being constrained to a strict TBR) and it’s been life changing. The author is also continuing the series in 2018 so now is the perfect time to pick it up! I hope you have some time to get to your backlist books- I LOVED The Royal We! (And it’s an apt time to read it now, with Harry’s recent engagement!)
