February 2017 | Month in Review

Posted March 6, 2017 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Month In Review / 12 Comments

February lived up to its status of being the shortest year out of the month, because I basically blinked and it was GONE. February signals the beginning of spring busy season for me at work, which lasts until the beginning of April, so I’ve been working a TON while still trying to keep up with all of the reading and blogging I’ve planned to do! Though I was super busy in February, I did so much post planning at the beginning of the year that I felt I was able to keep up with the blog and with reading pretty well, and was even able to participate in the 2017 Love-A-Thon as well as celebrate my 3rd Blogoversary!

Outside of my blogging and work life, February had a lot of personal things jam-packed into it as well. I kicked off the first weekend of the month with an impromptu trip to Disneyland with my aunt and it was awesome to see the return of the famous electrical parade as well as the Lunar New Year events they were hosting over in California Adventure (I hardly took ANY pictures this month, so sadly I don’t have any to share of the Lunar New Year decorations). The following week my cat had surgery (her first ever) and she was pretty out of it for a while, so Max and I worked our schedules to be with her as much as possible. We had a low-key Valentine’s day with chocolate covered strawberries from edible arrangements (the best!) and watched The Princess Diaries (an old favorite), enjoying a relaxing night at home (Valentine’s Day being in the middle of the week really limits us being able to do anything more exciting). We wrapped up the month with my Aunt’s birthday and a failed attempt to see V.E. Schwab speak about ACOL (I had to stay at work much later than anticipated that night, and by the time we got on the road to head to the event, traffic was so bad we couldn’t make it). Hopefully we have better luck with our planned events in March!

Monthly Book Haul

So I know TECHNICALLY this is more than my “can only purchase 3 books per month” rule, but I feel like this doesn’t really count since 5/6 of these were bought with vouchers.

Book Vouchers: And I Darken, The Rose and the Dagger

A huge thanks to NetGalley for both of these titles!

Looking Ahead

March is going to be FULL of bookish events, life changes, and too many pre-orders (oops). I’ll also be teaming up with some of my favorite fellow bloggers, Alexa from Alexa Loves Books and Kristin from Super Space Chick, to launch a fun and casual re-read event. Stay tuned for more details!

How has 2017 treated you so far? Have you made good progress on your 2017 reading goals? Do you think this is going to be a great year for you? What are you most looking forward to in March? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I just finished reading Mortal Heart yesterday and it ended up being my favorite book in the series! I’m so excited that Robin LaFevers is coming out with two more in the coming years 🙂 And I cannot wait for our re-read event!

  2. Looks like you had a pretty good reading month! 4 star average rating is great! I get what you mean about February going by fast, I feel like that about the whole year at the minute. Sorry to see you didn’t enjoy the nest, it was one I was looking forward to but I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews for it now so I don’t think I’ll end up reading it. Great wrap up post!

    • You know I had seen a lot of negative reviews for The Nest myself, but I still decided to give it a chance (especially since I hadn’t previously read anything by the author). I read a lot of other great books though so it definitely made up for it!

  3. Oh no, I hope you get to see Schwab at a future event! She’s such a wonderful and charismatic speaker (even if you didn’t enjoy ADSOM as your review might indicate).

I haven’t been too keen with wanting to read Laini Taylor’s DOSAB series but I’m REALLY enjoying Strange the Dreamer despite how slow I’m actually reading it (I’ll pretend that I’m savouring the words) so this series has definitely popped back into my radar…slightly.

    • I feel like I may just need to try another Schwab book (maybe ADSOM just wasn’t my cup of tea?) because I feel like I’m literally the ONLY PERSON who hasn’t fallen head over heels in love with what she writes.

I can honestly see myself reading Strange the Dreamer pretty slowly too. In my experience reading her DOSAB series her writing is very lyrical and beautiful but there’s a lot of world building and myth/lore, and I usually have to take my time absorbing that sort of stuff.
