Looking Back on 2016’s Bookish Events

2016 may have been a flaming garbage pile of a year in many ways, but it had some bomb author events and book releases! I was so lucky to attend SO many author events over the course of the past year and I thought I’d put a post together to give a quick recap of each!

This was my first bookish event of 2016, and it was AMAZING. There was such a good turn out, and Alex and Susan have a really great natural chemistry! I can’t wait to see them again this month! You can read my entire recap about the event as well!

I ADORE Susan, I think she may be my favorite author to meet at events!

Emery’s event was a smaller one but she has such a HUGE presence, and I loved the conversational format of her event. When We Collided was my first novel from her, and incidentally my favorite, and it was very moving hearing her speak of her personal connection to it. I can’t wait for her 2017 release! You can read my original recap of Emery’s event here.

Sadly my only picture with Emery because I was so excited I forgot to ask for one. Luckily, Max thought to take some candid shots without me even having to ask!

I had the pleasure of attending the launch for Outrun the Moon and it was really enjoyable! Stacey clearly puts a lot of research and work into her historical fiction novels, and being the academic I am, I loved her PowerPoint presentation on the history of the San Francisco earthquake. Having that context going into the book was a great primer.

I totally forgot to ask for a posed picture…again!

Sarah’s event was insane. There were SO many people there, but I was lucky enough to snag a special spot in the first row. Her personality is so vivacious and magnetic and unfiltered, and I was instantly mesmerized. I can only pray that she comes out West again to promote ACOWAR! Due to the high volume of attendees as her signing she wasn’t posing for pictures, but Max managed to capture a candid of me getting my book signed!

Serious fangirling was happening here.

The launch party for The Crown’s Game was SO much fun! The decorations were sparkly and gold and perfect, the pastries were amazing (Sprinkles mini cupcakes!) and the photo area was so much fun! Everyone got a crown and got to be a Tsar themselves that evening. It was definitely one of the bookish highlights on 2016!

Evelyn is so lovely and her launch was AMAZING!

Did you go to any memorable bookish/author events in 2016? Any book launches? If so, which ones were your favorites? Which 2017 book events are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I met Susan Dennard and Alexandra Bracken this year! It was amazing! Evelyn Skye and Emery Lord would be a lot of fun to meet, too, and I met Sarah J. Maas back in 2015. It looks like you had an awesome year ๐Ÿ˜‰ I also met Cassandra Clare and Marissa Meyer last year, and both were amazing. There were SO many people there for Cassandra Clare, it was crazy.

    • I still haven’t met Cassandra Clare, but I’ve heard that her events are insane, that people get there like 12 hours early to get in line! Aren’t Susan and Alex the best? I love local indie store events because they’re definitely exciting but they’re not TOO over the top to the point where it’s uncomfortable, you know? Hopefully you can attend some more great author events in 2017!

  2. Ah, I wish I could meet Stacey Lee & Evelyn Skye, who are both authors who have written books I absolutely LOVE! I hope they come over to the East Coast one day <3 And it looks like you had such a fun year of book events too in general ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • They are so lovely in person, and it’s so cool to see how close knit all of the Bay Area authors are! It’s a close community which is wonderful! That being said, I can’t wait to visit the east coast one day and hopefully attend some author events out there!

  3. Ooh you attended a lot of events and met lots of authors last year, it sounds amazing! I’m so bummed we don’t have any authors event in where I live ๐Ÿ™ I hope this year will be an awesome year for you too! ๐Ÿ™‚
