sundayfundaySunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back!

Life

Hello friends! It’s been a while since I did a weekly recap, but this week a lot of bookish things happened so I figured there was no time like the present to revive this feature from the dusty metaphorical shelf it’s been sitting on.

This week was my mom’s birthday, so Max and I made the drive up to my parent’s house on Saturday (they live a few hours away, so I only see them about every other month). While there, I took the opportunity to pick up six boxes of books that I had packed up and stored back in August when I started my new job and moved into own place. My parents had bought me a bookshelf a few months ago for my birthday (I sadly had to leave my old shelves at their house because, well, they were theirs) and we finally got around to building it at the end of March (by “we” I mean Max because he’s awesome). Today, I opened the six boxes and was reunited with some of my favorite, favorite books (it may have gotten a bit emotional, not gonna lie). I ended up being able to fit three on my shelves (plus all of the books I’ve accumulated since moving). We picked up another identical shelf to this one today at Ikea to go in my bedroom, so hopefully between the two shelves I can fit *most* of my books. Here’s my progress so far: IMG_7244(1)The top shelf is fantasy/fairytale retellings, the second shelf is sci-fi/dystopian, the third shelf is my designated HP shelf (with a few temporary books hanging out on it right now), followed by my urban fantasy/paranormal shelf. The fifth shelf is my contemporary shelf, and the bottom shelf houses all of my TBR books (I like keeping the books I haven’t read separate). Once I get it more organized and my other shelf up, it will be time for another bookshelf tour!

Books

I’m mixing my weekly recap post with Stacking the Shelves this week, as there were several new bookish additions to our home between Max and I.

FullSizeRender(1)I picked up a copy of Only Ever Yours as it was recently released in paperback and I’ve heard amazing things about its social commentary. I also won a copy of The Loose Ends List from The Novl, which I am SO excited for (I’ve had my eye on it for months now!) Max ordered Wolf by Wolf since he read and loved the ARC of it so much that he received at ALA (I stole the finished copy he got this week and added it to my shelves, haha). He also picked up the second book in The Dresden files, an adult urban fantasy series that’s become his new go-to for commute reads. We also both wanted a copy of Philip Zimbardo’s new book Man, Interrupted since we are seeing him speak next month and are big fans of his work from the psychology classes we took in high school and college.

I also picked up POP figure Yule Ball Hermione because she’s gorgeous and I now have an addiction to POP figures (they just look so good on bookshelves!)

Blogging

This past week I reflected on meeting Emery Lord for the first time on her tour for When We Collided, as well as finally reviewed Queen of Shadows (there’s a lot of flailing involved, you’ve been warned). Upcoming plans include a new political based feature (for book recs- nothing inflamatory!), a reflection on hitting the year mark of being self-hosted, and an updated bookshelf tour!

Did you do anything bookish over the weekend? Where did you buy your bookshelves, and do you recommend them? Let me know in the comments!
