Favorite Book Read This Month: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo hands down! I actually started this in July but was buddy reading it with the bf so it took longer than normal to finish, but I’m glad I got to savor it- it’s truly fantastic YA fantasy writing.
Least Favorite Book Read This Month: There were actually quite a few books that left me rather disappointed this month, especially ones I was really anticipating. However, I found Trouble is a Friend of mine to be full of plot holes that I just couldn’t forgive.
Book that Most Surprised Me This Month: Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland proved to have a lot more depth that I anticipated for what I took for a fluffy summer romance.

Updates About My Life This Month
Ok, so obviously if you’ve stopped by you know it’s been quieter than normal. I’ve mentioned it once or twice on here but I just want to let everyone know that I’m not planning on going anywhere, or leaving the book blogging community. I simply ventured into the big kid world of a full time, real job, and while I love the hustle and bustle of having a job in a big city the commute is pretty exhausting. (It’s anywhere from 11-12 hours between the time I leave home in the morning until the time I get home). HOWEVER it’s simply a matter of getting into a routine and I’ve developed an even deeper appreciation for the time I spend reading and blogging, because it’s a reward at the end of the day.
While I can’t read books on my commute (I am incredibly susceptible to motion sickness) I have been able to start (and acquire) quite a few new books recently. I am in the middle of Violent Ends and The Heir, and just finished the Selection novella The Queen via my new Scribd subscription (which I’m still trying out, and am going to post a review about soon!) My next anticipated reads are Tonight the Streets are Ours, What We Saw, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, and The Boy Most Likely To.
Did you have any major lifestyle changes in August? How do you best balance blogging and working? Let me know in the comments!
Oh man I remember the commutes when I worked could be the worst part when they would add on HOURS to my day. You will find your groove with it! Great job on your challenges! I am also looking forward ot Tonight the Streets are Ours – Have a wonderful week!
Thank you for your words of encouragement, Grace! Commuting round trip adds anywhere from 2.5-3 hours to my day, so definitely trying to find ways to be productive on it is key!
Have we talked about audiobooks before? Do you ever use them? I LOVE listening to them on my commute even though it’s only about 40 minutes total each day. I like having something to listen to while I get ready in the morning too.
I actually subscribed to Scribd using the link in your post when you talked about the app! 🙂
I have definitely been in a similar boat. I am starting college, have a part time job and a boat load of homework. It’s definitely hard to balance all three and make friends. And I don’t know how you feel about audiobooks, but Scribd definitely has a great selection (even though there is only 1 credit available starting later this month).

I’ve actually found it hard to get into the grove of Scribd, but I think it may be that I’m not selecting books that are doing a great job at catching my interest. Good luck with starting college! You’ll fall into a groove eventually and get your reading back on track! 🙂
I know exactly how you feel! I’m also back at full-time working and at this moment I’m struggling a little to get back into the schedule 🙂 But before we know it, we both rock this new rhythm!
Congrats, Mel! It’s definitely an adjustment, and while I may be posting less frequently I’m more concerned with preserving the quality of my content over the quantity that I’m posting. Good luck to you at your new job! 😀
