Stats

Total Books Read: 5

Total Novellas Read: 0

Rereads: 1 (Just Listen by Sarah Dessen)

Favorite Book Read This Month: Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. It was a reread from years ago for me, but Dessen’s quiet contemporary writing still had an impact on me!

Least Favorite Book Read This Month: Even in Paradise by Chelsey Philpot. This Great Gatsby expectations missed the mark for me.

Book that Most Surprised Me This Month: The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski. It was so much slower than I thought it would be…

Reading Challenge Updates

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge Progress: 49/70

Fairytale Retelling Challenge: 5/8

Reread Challenge: 13/12

*Note that the status bars for challenges in my side bar are slightly different because they only count books I wrote full reviews for.

Ok so this is TECHNICALLY from July…but it’s my favorites haul from ALA in June so it still counts!

Updates About My Life This Month

I took a brief hiatus from the end of June through the first week of July (hence why this post is coming so late in the month) in order to go to ALA (best experience EVER) and Washington DC! (You can read more about where I went/why I took a hiatus here). I’m back now in full force though so expect recaps of my adventures on the blog next week!

  1. I so so want to try a Sarah Dessen book. XD I see them pop up everywhere and ahhh I haven’t even read ONE yet. So this needs fixing, ASAP for sure. 😉 I really liked The Winner’s Crime, but I totally get that it was a bit slow. It didn’t have many expectations for it, actually, because I’m not the biggest fan of bk 1, BUT I KINDA FELL IN LOVE. Arin and Kestrel have such communication issues though. >_< Agh, the cliffhanger MURDERED MY SOUL.

    • SERIOUS communication issues. Like if any YA couple needed couple’s counseling they would need serious help working on that! Sarah Dessen has SUCH a wide variety of books to choose from, although there’s a range in how fluffy/deep they can be, so make sure you choose one you’re in the mood for when you DO try her out. I personally loved Dreamland and Just Listen.

    • So I LOVED the first book in the winner’s trilogy but the second one….it was slow. It was very much a bridge book to lay the foundation for book 3. It took me a while to read it and it’s been hard for me to formulate my thoughts for a review (hence why it’s not up yet). I think the third one will be good, the second book in a series seems to always be the hardest to write!

  2. I didn’t find “The Winner’s Curse” to be that slow. Of course it’s a middle book and we all want things to work out. So I guess the intrigue in the middle with Kestrel still trying to play both sides might be a little slower to build when we all want something good to happen.

Still one of my favorite series though! The third book of it and the third book of “The Remnant Chronicles” are the things I’m most looking forward to about 2016.

And I really need to read Josephine Angelini’s “Trail by Fire” series.
