A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas | Review

“I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.” How do I possibly count the ways in which I ADORED this book? I finished it about 24 hours ago, and I have been unable to do anything productive. I have picked up the book again at least 3 times since then to flip through it and reread my favorite parts. I am a book-hangover mess. Once in a while I’ll claim in a review that a book was “My favorite in X genre for this year” or “The best at dealing with X […]

Making Pretty by Corey Ann Haydu | ARC Review

Making Pretty by Corey Ann Haydu | ARC Review

Making Pretty captivated me by throwing a curve ball at me within the first 70 or so pages that I could not ignore; a plot twist so disturbing that I had to keep reading the book even though there were several things about it that did not work for me. So instead of DNF-ing it, I plowed through 300+ pages of seventeen year old Montana’s narrative to find myself at the end of it feeling a lot of things, though “liking” this book is unfortunately not one of them. While Haydu crafts a story with intensely messy family dynamics and […]

Bout of Books 13 Challenge #1: Bookish Survey

Today is the first day of Bout of Books 13! Today’s challenge is being hosted by Writing My Own Fairytale, and it’s a bookish survey to help the participants get to know each other better and ease everyone into the challenges! Check out my sign up and progress post here. 1) How do you organize your shelves? I have a system that’s sort of a blend that works the best for me. I have three main bookshelves and the left is everything that’s paranormal/fantasy/dystopian and within that it’s alphabetized by author. The middle bookshelf has a lot of my childhood […]

Stacking the Shelves [22]

Stacking the Shelves [22]

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where bloggers share the books that they’ve added to their shelves this week, whether borrowed, bought, virtual, physical, etc! Bought Three pre-orders came in for me this week! I’ve started A Court of Thorns and Roses and I have to say- it is COMPLETELY living up to the hype so far! I’m looking forward to starting The Heir and Crimson Bound soon too! What did you add to your shelves this week?

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver | Review

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver | Review

“That’s what life is, pretty much: full of holes and tangles and ways to get stuck. Uncomfortable and itchy. A present you never asked for, never wanted, never chose. A present you’re supposed to be excited to wear, day after day, even when you’d rather stay in bed and do nothing.” Vanishing Girls is the novel that made me appreciate Lauren Oliver’s writing. Varying between lyrical and dark, Oliver’s prose sets a tone for the novel that’s much like the book’s cover: slightly mysterious, but more disturbing the deeper you go. Tackling tougher topics and darker twists than I’ve found […]

Bout of Books 13: Participation and Goals!

Bout of Books 13: Participation and Goals!

This is my second time participating in a Bout of Books read-a-thon, a wonderfully low-pressure week where readers and bloggers alike set reading goals and update each other on their progress! I participated in Bout of Books 11 and found that it really helped me be successful in knocking books off of my TBR. Seeing as I have quite a few books coming from pre-orders and ARCs to get through, May is the perfect month for a read-a-thon! The Official Purpose The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the […]

Moving to Self-Hosted: Everything You Wanted to Know About My Experience

I did it! On April 21, 2015, I moved my book blog, Girl in the Pages, from wordpress.com to a self-hosted wordpress.org site. This came after months of research, weeks of talking to other bloggers about their experiences moving, and a lot of internal debate. While I was making the decision to move, I scoured book blogs high and low for information about how the transition worked, what to expect, etc. I decided to make a post sharing my experience and answer all of the questions that I knew I was anxious to ask while I was going through the […]

The Burrito Bowl Book Tag!

The Burrito Bowl Book Tag!

The Burrito Bowl Book Tag was inspired by a mutual love of the deconstructed burrito-in-a-bowl that Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts and I share. Realizing our great love of  Mexican take out could be metaphorically translated into a book tag, we came up with this fun (and delicious) tag! Here are some rules to devour this tag: Thank the blogger who nominated you to make your own burrito bowl, linking back to their site. Answer the tag questions. Tag 5 others to create their own bowl! Food coma. *This tag is not endorsed by Chipotle, just inspired by it! You can answer […]
