I cannot believe that I’ve been blogging for an entire year! On February 6, 2014 I decided to launch Girl in the Pages, encouraged after having experienced a Harry Potter study abroad course to London and realizing I had so much I wanted to say about the books I love to read!

While I initially started this blog as a way to organize my thoughts on the books I’ve read, it’s grown and flourished because of you. Every reader, every follower, every like, every comment…it’s all driven me to continue with this blog, to create a brand and teach myself everything from how to dabble in graphic design to how to write thoughtful and respectful reviews. I know every blogger mentions how much they value their followers, but please take a moment to know that I sincerely and deeply appreciate each and every person who’s considered my content worth reading and taken the time to engage with me. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with the book blogging community and have gotten the best kind of encouragement from the most wonderful types of people.

A Bit About My Blogging Journey: I started my WordPress account in the fall of 2012. I initially used it as a lifestyle blog to chronicle being an undergrad, my love for fashion, decorating my first apartment, and, of course, the life of my cats. I posted a little here and there, and the next summer I decided to start posting the occasional book review as well. It wasn’t until I started reading my favorite childhood series (Harry Potter) through a critical and academic lens for my study abroad course that I realized there was SO MUCH I had to say about all of my beloved YA books and that SO MANY of them had such strong themes for analysis. Two weeks after I returned home to the states I posted pictures of my trip and officially re-branded myself as a book blog on February 6, 2014. Girl in the Pages was born!

Since then, I’ve posted 199 times (This will be my 200th post since Girl in the Pages was started! Totally unplanned!) and I’ve gained over 400 followers! Blogging has been one of the most rewarding pursuits in my life, and has been a place that has helped keep me focused and happy despite facing a lot of life transitions. I plan on continuing to blog for many years to come!

In order to celebrate turning one, I’ve chosen to highlight my favorite posts I’ve written. Though it was a hard task, I’ve narrowed down my 200 posts into my 5 favorites:

Remember When I Said I Was Going to Hogwarts/ Oxford: A History of Children’s Literature

Fairy Tale Friday: Snow White/ Cinderella

Bookshelf Tour!

Cristina’s Close Look: Marginalized Identities and Intersectionality in Eleanor & Park

Discussion: Are You A Seasonal Reader?

I’d love it if you’d celebrate with me! To honor all of my amazing followers and celebrate my success at building my blog, I’m hosting a blogiversary giveaway! The winner will be able to select a book of their choice (up to $12 US Dollars value) from The Book Depository (as long as they ship to you free!) The winner will be announced at the beginning of March!

    • Thank you so much! 🙂 It’s been an achievement I’m so proud of (especially for sticking with it- I’m sure you know how tough it can be to keep up with hobbies with work and going to school and everything else!) Every kind word truly means so much and thank you for the encouragement! 🙂

  2. Congrats Christina! I am so glad to have come across your blog, I always enjoy every post and have fun chatting books with you. 🙂

I had no idea you started out as a lifestyle blogger, for selfish reasons, I’m glad it turned into book blogging. 😉

Hope you continue posting for many years to come!

    • Aww thank you so much! I know I’ve mentioned this to you before but you’re one of the first book bloggers who followed me as a newbie and it was so encouraging to me! Thank you for your continued support! 🙂

  3. Congratulations! I went through and did major housekeeping on my blog when I hit the one year mark- I deleted almost 40 posts that I was not fond of & now I’m down to around 150 total posts. Crazy that you’ve managed 200 in just 1 year! Awesome job!
