Month in Review [October 2014]

monthinreviewSunday Funday is generally a weekly(ish) post I started to recap my bookish and not-so-bookish thoughts. I’ve decided to expand this concept to monthly recaps during the last week of the month as well! As always, feel free to participate, just link back! (This is a day late this month, so please excuse the “Sunday Funday” title!)

October 2014

Total Books Read: 5

I’m happy that 4/5 of my books were either Halloween themed, spooky, or thrillers!

Goodreads 2014 Reading Challenge Progress: 54/50 Books (Yay! Goal reached for the year!)

Favorite Book Read in October: Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L Armentrout

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had only read the Lux series by JLA, but Don’t Look Back was an amazing thriller that kept me hooked to each page and invested in the characters!

Least Favorite Book Read in October: I enjoyed everything this month, but Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was hard for me to get into at the beginning.

Book that Most Surprised Me in October: Landline by Rainbow Rowell.

I’d seen a lot of lackluster reviews for Rowell’s newest adult fiction book, but I found that I really enjoyed it, especially as a book that really explores its characters in depth! It’s more of a study of relationships than a plot-centric novel.

lifeupdatesmonth1) October has meant sweater weather, shorter days and longer nights, and a plethora of fall activities! I managed to do quite a few things on my fall bucket list this month, such as go to a pumpkin patch (well really it was a farm, with the most amazing apple pastries ever), carve a pumpkin, go through a corn maze, and dressed up for Halloween.

photo-16My boyfriend and I dressed up as a 1950’s greaser and bobby-socks girl for Halloween. My favorite color is blue and I’m a cat person, so instead of a pink poodle skirt I gave my own spin to the outfit and made a blue skirt with a black cat on it instead! I have a long-standing tradition with my friends of making sure we stop by Chipotle to get out $3 burrito for being dressed up, and while waiting in line we ran into another gang of greasers and immediately bonded, haha!

November’s set to be an exciting month as well, as we’re going to see one of our favorite groups, Postmodern Jukebox (they do covers of popular songs in different decade music themes-find them on youtube here), perhaps going to visit the snow, and there are of course, many many great books being released (number one on my TBR is The Retribution of Mara Dyer). I’m such a lover of fall and winter, so as the weather gets colder my excitement gets bigger!

How was your October? Did you read any spooky themed books or do any fun fall activities? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Ah, I’m so dying to read Don’t Look Back, I need to pick it up from the library since I had it on hold. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I was talking to a friend about the Luxe series and somehow it completely slipped my mind that Jennifer Armentrout also wrote that AND Don’t Look Back. It’s really surprising I forgot considering DLB has been on my TBR list forever.

My favorite color is blue and i’m a cat person as well. 🙂 You both look great.

I didn’t read any creepy books last month, unfortunately because I had a whole list I wanted to read. 🙁 Oh well, have a great November! 🙂

    • Thank you! I like to substitute blue for pink whenever possible haha. Don’t Look Back was SO GOOD, I love thrillers and I feel like they’re currently not a huge portion of the YA market so when I find a good one I get really excited!

      • You’re welcome! Haha, I just realized I was thinking of a completely different Lux series than my friend, oops. Lol. I like thrillers too since reading We Were Liars. I need to read Dangerous Girls, Dangerous Boys and Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone. I hope more authors will start publishing YA thrillers.
