sundayfundaynewSunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back!

October 20-26, 2014

Life

Nothing too exciting happened this week. I traveled a bit and was able to spend some time with my grandparents, which is always great, especially since my grandmother shares my love of books, although she indulges mostly in historical fiction (she’s the one who got me interested in Philipa Gregory novels). My mom surprised me with Sprinkles cupcakes later in the week from a trip she took, which was a really fantastic treat since I haven’t had them in quite a while- their S’mores cupcake is amazing!

What I’m Reading and Watching

Added to my shelves:

i'llgiveyouthesunI’ve been waiting all month for my library to get this in, and as soon as it did I was able to get my hands on it! I’m really excited to start this contemporary novel that I’ve heard it truly moving…contemporary isn’t always my go-to genre so I love when one surprises me!

lolaandtheboynextdoorI promised myself when this went on sale on Amazon I’d scoop it up, and it dropped to below $6 this week so I couldn’t resist! I have to own this series because the covers are SO beautiful.

Currently Reading:

missperegrineI’ve been meaning to read this title for a while but was always a little creeped out by the premise (and the pictures!) but I finally picked it up this month. I can truly say this book is absolutely nothing like I thought it would be…but it’s actually really good!

FN-ShowLogo-Chopped-1920x1080My boyfriend and I discovered Chopped was on Netflix, and I wanted to try a new cooking show since we love Kitchen Nightmares. Chopped is fantastic, and I found myself getting pretty invested in who won each episode! It’s also fun to watch with other people and just marvel at the crazy ingredient combinations they challenge the chefs with!

Around the Blog

Monday: Landline by Rainbow Rowell was a huge hit for me.

Tuesday: Top Ten New(ish) series I want to start!

Thursday: I discuss my biggest gripe about the Harry Potter series.

Did you have a good week? Have you been using the end of October to catch up on any creepy/spooky reads? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Aw, traveling’s always nice. Generally. I’ve heard Philippa Gregory is pretty good. Historical Fiction is a genre I need to get more into. 🙂

Okay, that S’mores cupcake sounds amazing. I’ll have to try to find some kind of recipe online. I love S’mores and cupcakes so this is like, perfection. How sweet of your mom.

I’m dying to read I’ll Give You The Sun! I have Jandy’s other book, but I haven’t read it yet. I read Lola and The Boy Next Door though! I wasn’t really crazy about it, but it wasn’t a bad book. Just not my cup of tea.

I read part of Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children when there was a long excerpt online a few years ago. Although I own it, I still haven’t finished reading it. I haven’t even touched it since after I first bought it (a year after reading the excerpt). I hope you like it! I know my mom liked it a bit. I really need to read this book.

That’s fantastic to hear about Landline! I almost checked that book out last week, but I kind of already had a ton to check out so I didn’t. Haha.

My week’s been pretty okay. Originally at the end of last month, I wanted to do a “scary”/mystery/thriller review every Friday in October and er, that sort of fell through unfortunately. *sighs* I can never do theme reads it seems. Have a great week!

    • Theme reading is indeed hard, as there’s always something you see that detracts you, and it’s much easier and less forced to go with “mood” reading. Bummer about Lola, but did you read Anna and Isla as well? Did you enjoy the series as a whole? I haven’t read many series where each novel has a different main character so it’ll be interesting for sure! I highly recommend Landline (and Fangirl if you haven’t read that yet). Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

      • Yes, and I always put it off for another book I want to read. Mood reading is a lot easier. I read Anna, but haven’t read Isla yet, which is funny because I’ve been dying to read it, but other books end up taking priority. 🙂 I enjoyed Anna mostly. I like series where a new main character takes focus, or intertwined stories, like a Christian Adult series called Faded Photographs.

Landline is on my list of books to read. I’ve been wanting to read Fangirl, which I own, but…other books take priority. Lol. You’re welcome! 🙂

  2. Aaah! Cupcakes <3 <3 <3 *dreamy sigh*
(Or any sort of cake for that matter 😉 )
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children had been on my TBR for a while too. I've just never really had the time to pick it up…
