Sunday Funday: Week in Review [16]

Posted October 19, 2014 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Sunday Funday, Weekly Features/Memes / 4 Comments

sundayfundaynewSunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back!

Life

This week was a busy one, spent with indulging in a lot of fun fall activities as Halloween nears. I was able to visit a pumpkin farm, go on a hay ride, find my way through a corn maze, and eat the most delicious apple pie ever this weekend. I also carved my first pumpkin (since I was old enough to remember, anyway) and used all the seeds inside to make homemade roasted and salted pumpkin seeds (the perfect snack! It’s like a more savory version of popcorn!)

What I’m Reading and Watching

I’ve started watching Reign and I’m addicted! I know it’s loosely historically accurate but I love the focus on Mary, Queen of Scots and I think Adelaide Kane does a fantastic job! It’s got me on quite the historical fiction/fantasy kick, perfect for reading Throne of Glass!

Added to my shelves:

mytruelovegavetomeI picked this up at Target this weekend, and I am so excited to read this closer to the holiday season! It’s going to be my first December read! As a YA book blogger, I read predominantly novels, but in college I spent a lot of time reading short stories and appreciating how fantastic, smart, funny, and insightful a shorter narrative can be, and I’m particularly excited to read Laini Taylor and Rainbow Rowell’s stories!

Around the Blog

Monday: I review the ARC of Oh Yeah, Audrey!

Tuesday: Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want to Visit

Wednesday: I review the paranormal novel The Nightmare Affair.

Thursday: I discuss my desire to live in Hogsmeade!

Friday: The second installment in my original Fairy Tale Friday feature, focusing on Cinderella!

What are your feelings on short story collections? Do you think its a trend that could/should pick up in YA? Let me know in the comments!

  1. You’d never carved a pumpkin before? I love carving pumpkins! Your cat looks really good! 🙂 Toasting the seeds is the best! I haven’t watched Reign, because I was afraid it would be too drama-ful. I like short stories, but I’m also really picky about them, so I don’t know if I’d want to see more or not. I hope that makes sense.
