Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a weekly meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts, and is a fantastic way to keep the Harry Potter magic alive year round, even when not reading the books! I’m so excited to be participating!
The Theme This Week: If you were a witch/wizard, where would you live?
“Hogsmeade looked like a Christmas card; the little thatched cottages and shops were all covered in a layer of crisp snow; there were holly wreaths on the doors and strings of enchanted candles hanging in the trees.“
Hands down, if I had to live in one of the communities in the books, it would definitely be Hogsmeade! I think if I was a muggle-born or a half blood it may be hard to give up my technological conveniences and hobbies (since electronics wouldn’t work in an area with such a high concentration of magic) but the idea of living in a community where magic was the norm and being able to live that lifestyle openly would be fantastic. It’s mentioned in the books that Hogsmeade is the last all-wizard settlement in Britain, and its close proximity to Hogwarts gives it a cool college-town feel, as professors and students often visit the village. I could just imagine having a cute cottage or apartment above one of the shops, and frequenting Honeydukes on weekends for treats and Scriveshaft’s for new quills!
I’d want to live at Hogwarts, (because I’d be a teacher) and that way I’d still get to go home for breaks to have technology. And since Hogsmeade is right next door I’d get to visit.
I’ve always wondered how many professors kept outside residences (we know Snape does, but really, I just always assumed, for instance, that Dumbledore lived at the school full time!)
This is such a cool thing! I would definitely want to live somewhere in London close to Diagon Alley. I’m thinking of this in terms of ‘if I was to continue on with where I want my life to go plus I just happen to have magical powers’. So I want to work in a PR firm and they have tons of great ones in London, but I could frequent Diagon Alley and hang with my awesome magical friends while still being able to work in my field.
But Hogsmeade would be so pretty! 🙂
Exactly, then you would get to have the best of both worlds! I LOVE London, so near Diagon Alley is a great compromise!
I’ve never been, but I want to go sooooo bad!
I’d probably want to use magic to live somewhere where it would otherwise be impossible to live (at the bottom of the ocean, in an airship that never lands, etc). It would be so fun! 🙂
That’s a great idea! It didn’t occur to me but it would be a great opportunity to experience an otherwise unlivable circumstance! I always found it fascinating how magic could expand in interior space of a location (such as the tents the characters use at the World Cup!)
YUP! Same here! 100%, I even featured the same quote about Hogsmeade that you did ♥ To me, that place is absolute perfection! Imagine the view of Hogwarts throughout the seasons *swoon* And I mean, it’s in Britain!!! Sigh…hey, maybe we’d be neighbors LOL Awesome pick ^^
I just think I’d want the full EXPERIENCE that I could only get living in an all magical settlement!
I’d definitely want to live in Hogsmeade as well. If I need internet I’ll just apparate to the nearest internet cafe 🙂
Exactly! It’s all about balance 🙂
