Halloween Reads, Part 1

halloweenreadsNow that September is over half-way through, my giddiness for the fall season is mounting (despite the fact that there’s a heatwave passing through…). Fall means late night bonfires, crisp air, wearing all of those boots neglected in my closet, and (my favorite part) Halloween! I’ve always been a huge huge huge fan of Halloween and all of the whimsical magic that comes with the holiday. I want to start getting myself in the mood for the season, so I’ve gathered all of the thriller/paranormal/creepy books on my shelves at the moment and challenge myself to integrate them into my reading schedule for the next month!

Borrowed: The Nightmare Affair and Gone Girl from my local library. Bonus points for finishing Gone Girl soon because I want to see the film in theaters! Also, I’m a tad bit obsessed with The Nightmare Affair’s cover!

Gifted: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Interview with the Vampire, from my boyfriend and Aunt respectively. I’ve been too wary of Miss Peregrine to pick it up yet (I like spooky but not too scary!) but I’ve seen a lot of bloggers review it recently and say it’s not too bad! I’ve owned Interview for quite a while but my aunt says it’s way scarier than the movie (which I haven’t seen, but hear Brad Pitt is quite handsome in it…).

ARC: Portraits of Celina. Super excited for this one as it has some really good reviews on Goodreads so far!

Hopefully I’ll accumulate some more eerie reads as the fall progresses! Do you have any suggestions? (I try to stay away from anything like Stephen King because I’m not a fan of horror, but I do enjoy the slightly spooky, and really like thrillers!) Do you tend to read certain books to get you in the mood for certain seasons or holidays? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I love this post! Halloween is my favorite holiday and all the books I read next month are for sure going to be fitting the Halloween theme!!! I even started early and I am currently reading Gone Girl and than plan to pick up Horns by Joe Hill.
