Stacking the Shelves [6]

Posted August 9, 2014 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Stacking the Shelves, Weekly Features/Memes / 12 Comments

STSnewStacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews where bloggers share the books that they’ve added to their shelves this week, whether borrowed, bought, virtual, physical, etc!

Borrowed:

troubleI was beyond excited when I casually strolled into my library and saw this sitting on the “new to the library” shelf, untouched. I literally gasped and practically ran for it, hugging it to my chest and only relinquishing it when I had to hand it to the librarian to check out. I have heard so many amazing things about both this novel and about Non Pratt (and the way the topic of sex and intimacy is navigated throughout the YA story) and I’m shocked my little library had it! The book gods were apparently beaming down on me this weekend.

#scandalI also picked up #scandal by Sarah Ockler, which I don’t know too much about, other than some buzz surrounding the way it portrays online gossip and bullying. I haven’t read anything by Ockler either, so I’m excited to discover some new authors this month. Although I went to the library solely to return two books, and now I have more checked out than I begin with (this always seems to happen, doesn’t it?)

Bought:

oppositionI actually pre-ordered this from Amazon a while ago and I started it practically the moment it landed in my mailbox. I’m a huge fan of The Lux series and the fact that this is the final installment is bittersweet…although I’m not happy about the cover style change from the first four books and the fact that they’ve bundled the earlier four books into two installments. I’m trying to ignore the fact that this won’t match the rest of the series on my bookshelf!

What about you? Link me back to your STS this week!

  1. I hate it when my series doesn’t match too! The Dresden files paperbacks all of the sudden got taller, so annoying. I look forward to your Lux review to find out how the series ends. I just got the first book free last week.

    • I hope you enjoy the first book! It’s definitely a unique narrative voice and different from a lot of paranormal YA romance that I’ve read, but it surprised me and I now love the series!

  2. I hadn’t heard of Trouble, but I’ll have to check it out if you were that excited about it.
Looking forward to your thoughts on #scandal. I’ve heard a little about it, and I am interested in it for sure.

  3. I’m annoyed by the cover change in the final Lux book as well. I just don’t get the point and I think it’s awful to do that when you’re at the end of the series. And this cover is HORRID. The others were at least decent, but this is in no way attractive to me with all that greasy hai. Major Fail!
I hope you will like #scandal. It’s not my favorite book by Sarah Ockler, but she’s such a wonderful author. Definitely try Bittersweet and The Book of Broken Hearts by her.
Enjoy your lovely reads this week! 🙂

    • I KNOW. I CAN’T STAND IT EITHER. And in person it’s kind of holographic and shimmery and sparkly and ick. Have you picked it up yet? I just finished the actualy “Opposition” novel part of it but it’s bundled with the “Shadows” novella…not sure about how I feel about them bundling the books either! Thanks for your Sarah Ockler suggestions, and for stopping by!

  4. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of #Scandal. Sarah Ockler is one of my favorite contemporary authors, but I’ve heard some mixed thing about this particular book. And Opposition!! I cannot wait to see how JLA finishes the series.
