Sunday Funday: Week in Review [8]

sundayfundaynewSunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back!

This week has been more of a productive one and less of a fun one. I’ve been busy with work (although I got an extra day off this weekend, so that was nice!), had to take my car in for some repairs, grocery shop, helped finalize plans for a mini family reunion in two weeks, and catch up on posting some reviews.

Currently Reading:

thedreamthievesSo far this is pretty good, although it hasn’t kept me as hooked as the first book in the series, which seemed a tad more magical what with Cabeswater, learning abut the ley line, and seeing more interactions with the psychics in Blue’s family. This book focuses more on Ronan, and while interesting, he’s probably my least favorite of the Raven Boys.

You can check out my Stacking the Shelves post from this week to see what goodies I received from Amazon, including Abigail Haas’ novel Dangerous Girls, which I am SO excited to read!

Bookish News:

So I found out this week that Meg Cabot is returning to two of her most famous series, The Mediator and The Princess Diaries, and will be releasing new installments in each series in 2015! I’m a HUGE Meg Cabot fan, as her books were the first YA books I read, and the newest installment in The Princess Diaries series is actually going to be adult fiction rather than YA. You can click here to go to Meg Cabot’s blog to learn more about the new installments. I’m really excited to see how she transitions her YA characters into more adult characters, and have been inspired to do a Princess Diaries series re-read in order to prepare for the new book (it’s been quite a while since I’ve read them, although I’ve read the first few so many times the spines are practically broken, which I never do to my books normally). I’m also looking forward to doing some re-reading because ever since I started blogging I feel like I’ve been more focused on reading new content to write relevant reviews about, and have been neglecting some of my old favorites that fostered my love of reading to begin with.

Also, I think I may have to mark Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson a DNF. It’s just boring to me and I can’t stand Emily, the main character. I assume that she has a lot of growth throughout the novel but I’m a quarter of the way through it and I just find her lack of agency so irritating. Did anyone else have trouble getting through this book?

What Happened Here This Week:

Tuesday: I fangirled over my Top Ten TV Shows.

Wednesday: I wrote about my experience growing up with Nancy Drew.

Friday: Complete and utter book-hangover from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.

Saturday: Stacking the Shelves and my thoughts on Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson.

  1. I hope your reunion goes well. Some books just don’t click with me, don’t feel bad stopping. Reading is supposed to be fun. 🙂 I’ve been meaning to try the Raven Boys. I hope the second book picks up. Yeah, I get stuck and just reread things so my blog is good for me to keep reading new things, but sometimes my favorite books call to me.

    • Thanks! It’s hard when books get such good reviews but you can’t get into them, and there’s a sort of guilt about not finishing them, but my TBR list is so long that I feel like my time would be better spent moving on!

  2. I didn’t realise Meg was returning to the Mediator series as well, now I’m excited! 🙂 I tried to read the first book in The Princess Diaries and couldn’t get on with it at all marking it as a DNF, but I think it may be because I came to it too late in life because I love most of her work.

Shame to hear about Since You’ve Been Gone, I thought that one looked great and had added it to my wishlist. I may have to rethink it now.

    • I love the Mediator series by her! And I’m glad to know someone else who does too, because I feel like it’s one of her less publicized series so it gets less attention, but I think it’s a unique take on the paranormal romance angle. Since You’ve Been Gone could pick up (it’s quite long) but it just hasn’t clicked for me over 100+ pages in so I feel like I’d rather move on, but I’m also having a bit of contemporary burnout lately so it might just be me. Have you read nay of Matson’s other books? I did and liked them, so I’m surprised this one is such slow going for me.

  3. I’m super excited about the Princess Diaries and the Mediator additions! When I first saw it, I almost had to wake up my house just so I could tell someone! Not many of my friends have read Meg Cabot, so it’s cool to see someone else excited!

    • When i found out I literally gasped out loud and told my family even though none of them really knew what I was talking about! I definitely know that feeling of excitement, it’s like your best friends you haven’t seen in years are finally coming home!

      • Yes! No longer will I have to re-read Forever Princess in order to see Mia and Michael again! I can’t wait to see how they’re doing several years after that ending!
