TTTcustombannerTop Ten Tuesday is, as always, hosted by the fantastic blog the Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is top ten cover trends you like or dislike!

Book Trends I Love

1) Black and White with one focus color

10798416

Jennifer E. Smith’s novels usually are like this!

2) Interesting Typography

aristotle

I couldn’t stop looking at the cover of this book while I was reading it! I wish the symbols had been explained.

3) Covers featuring silhouettes

marypoppins

The UK always seems to get these pretty silhouette covers!

4) Covers Featuring the Dusk/ Night Sky

loveletters

5) Fairytale Inspired Covers

scarletspanish

6) Inverted Colors in Covers

breakingdawn

Am I the only one who was super tempted to re-purchase all of my Twilight books to get the special edition white colors??

7) When each cover in a series has a specific color

8490112

It really makes my OCD with color coordination happy, as I can always associate a certain book with a certain color.

8) Beautiful yet eerie covers

12924275

I didn’t even like the Fallen series by Lauren Kate but I cannot deny how gorgeous the covers are. So eerie yet so so pretty without giving away exactly what the character is supposed to look like!

Book Trends I Can’t Stand

9) Covers that show faces!

onyx

I hate when my mental perception of what a character looks like is damaged by a model on the front cover! It stunts my imagination!

10) Covers dominated by text with little or no images.

beautiful creatures

Snoooooze.

Do you agree with any of my cover choices, or do my preferences drive you crazy?? Let me know in the comments and link back to your TTT post!

  1. I agree with all of your likes! My favourites are number one, b/w with a pop of colour, and number seven, different colours for each book.
I really like the Beautiful Creatures covers (the books were awful though) because they’re so minimalist.
But I gotta agree, faces on the cover is just a ‘no’ for me!
    Great list Cristina! x

  2. I love it when covers only feature one or two colors with an accent cover that pops! I like the black and white covers with accents, but I also like covers with only a few other colors too like the Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider!

  3. Silhouettes are lovely and interesting typography is the best. The Laini Taylor series has some of the best, most distinctive cover designs. I really dislike faces on the cover as well.

  4. Awesome cover choices! I love the black and white plus one color covers, and the ones with interesting fonts. I think the typography on books is so important and it can definitely make me pick upo books! 🙂

  5. I agree with your No. 9 HATE. I also don’t like books that show faces of the models. It totally alters and destroys my idea of how I imagine them. Lol
