Sunday Funday is a weekly(ish) post I’ve started to recap the bookish (and sometimes not-so-bookish) happenings in my life the past week! Feel free to participate, just link back!

June 2-June 8, 2014

This week has really brought with it the summer weather, with temperatures being 100+ all weekend. I’ve been trying to take advantage of my local pool to get some reading/tanning done simultaneously (which generally ends up with me glaring at small children who jump into the pool at a proximity which threatens to splash my books).

This was my last week of settling in for the summer before I start work, so I’ve had more laid back days than normal. I tried sushi for the first time (granted, it was vegetarian because I’m not a seafood eater but I still enjoyed the experience) and have been trying to bond with my new kitten since he’s a little on the skittish side. I have two other cats that are about seven years old who are great companions to just sit and read with, but the new kitten is a hyper little boy and nudges my book or computer when I’m reading/blogging, demanding attention (which is hard to deny him because he’s really, really cute).

I just finished Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. My review will be up later this week! Earlier this week I also finished City of Heavenly Fire and have been letting it process before I write my review. It was so long and the conclusion to such a long series that it’s hard to formulate my thoughts into a coherent (and spoiler-free) review.

I picked up a copy of The Fault in Our Stars this weekend which I’m going to be reading with my boyfriend in a sort of mini book club. We’re going to map out a reading schedule and read the same chapters each day in order to prepare us to see the movie together later this month.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters is next on my reading list, to read in between my TFiOS schedule (I have a habit of reading really fast and I have to stay on schedule with my mini book club!)

The official trailer for the new Sailor Moon anime has been released! If you’re like me and grew up watching Sailor Moon, the redesigned anime and the re-realease of the manga over the past few years has been really exciting, and a chance for a whole new generation to be exposed to the Sailor Scouts (also, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer pulls from Sailor Moon elements, another reason why I love the series!) Hulu is also releasing a subbed episode every Monday of the original anime. If you’re a fan, check out the trailer below!

How was your week? Have you done any poolside reading? Have any thoughts on any of these books? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Where do you live that it’s been in the 100s all week? It’s been in the 90s here with A LOT of humidity.
I’ve been wanting to check out Aristotle and Dante, so I’ll definitely be looking forward to your review, as well as what you think of TFiOS. I LOVED the movie adaptation; I thought it did the book justice and it met my expectations (which, I’ll admit, were pretty high). 🙂

  2. WOW! I don’t know if I could deal with that heat, it would drive me crazy. It’s very hot here atm and I can barely stand it. Especially since the library I work at is made with huge windows all the way around. It feels like a greenhouse inside and we have the tiniest windows that open an inch or so. Eurgh, so unpleasant.

Your kitten is adorable! I have wanted to get a new addition since my other cat had kidney failure and had to be put down, now our other cat seems lonely. I couldn’t deny that little guy attention either.

I hope you enjoy TFIOS, I’m getting very excited to see the film 🙂

    • I’m so sorry to hear about your cat! They definitely need attention, and my kitten seems lonely due to the fact that my other cats are so much older they’re not really playmates for him, so he seems to think I’m one instead!
