Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly feature hosted by the fantastic blog The Broke and the Bookish. This week the topic is Top Ten Book Covers I’d Frame as Pieces of Art.
1) & 2)Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer- These are actually the Spanish covers for the books, and I absolutely adore them, as they’re delicate and reflect a very dark-fairy-tale-vibe.
3) The Selection by Kiera Cass- Blue is my favorite color, and this series always has the most gorgeous gowns on the cover, and the Tiffany blue is too striking not to love. I wish everything in my bedroom could be this color.
4) The Diviners by Libba Bray- This is British cover that I came across in a bookstore in Oxford this past winter. I love the 1920’s details with the blue backdrop and the mysterious silhouette- so much more appealing than the American hardcover, in my opinion.
5) Mary Poppins by PL Travers- This is also a version I came across in the same bookstore in Oxford. I love the soft colors and the stars in the background, and if I had a child it would be a beautiful addition to a nursery, either framed or painted on the wall as a mural.
6) Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan- I loved loved loved this original US hardback cover and it was a huge reason as to why I bought the book initially. The colors and use of silhouette and shadow make it feel like an enchanting mystery and it’s really a very beautiful and subtle cover. Yet when the second book in the series was released they changed the covers for the entire series to something much less whimsical and enchanting. I hate when covers change midway through an active series!
7-10) Harry Potter 1, 3, 5 & 6, 15th Anniversary Editions- Maybe I’m in the minority but I love love love the new Harry Potter covers and much prefer them to the originals (and they each have another scene on the back with a single, haunting quote from the book instead of a synopsis- serious fangirling is happening here!) I think they’re really beautiful and it’s such a treat to be able to see new scenes depicted in illustration. The covers are breathtaking and the ones I chose incorporate my favorite color of blue in them, and I’d absolutely love to have them as artwork for my bedroom.
So overall I think we can deduce I like covers with blue color schemes and/or with mysterious silhouettes and soft colors that carry an air of child-like whimsy and mystery. Did you notice any patterns in your cover choices? Do you find yourself liking other countries’ covers better? Link back to your TTT, I’d love to see your choices!
Harry Potter is pretty much a trump card in most respects (despite the fact that I actually haven’t completed reading the series…) Cover designs with soft tones or silhouettes seems like a winner in many peoples books…I think you might be onto something!
Cheers,

What kept you from finishing the series?
To be honest: laziness to follow through with the series after I watched all the movies. At the time, I wasn’t one to liken reading as much as I do today– so as the movies came out…I just kind of drifted from reading them since the major plot points were already known. (Most HP fans would probably chirp me out for this though, haha.)
Wellllll I can understand that. Once the movies started it was probably hard to find the motivation to go back to the books. Although the movies don’t do the books justice (especially 5 & 7) so if you enjoyed them and want a better experience I’d still pursue reading them eventually!
Haha, that’s usually the case though isn’t it (books > movies). And since I think I’ve basically told everyone that it’s unlikely that I’d read them…I guess I should have some conviction in my words and stick to it! (Even though I really shouldn’t say that on a book-centric blog…oops.)
Anything magical yet abstract draws my attention, except for those HP covers. Those are the bomb! I would frame them up too.
Thanks! I got the new HP editions for Christmas but I’m almost too scared to read them, because of how trashed my old ones are by so many re-reads! They’re absolutely gorgeous though, I wonder if they’ll continue to print them or if it’s just for a limited time!
I really like that cover of Mary Poppins! I would totally put that on my future child’s nursery wall. Also, it’s HP. Like Joey said, it’s a trump card. You’re not the only one: I really like the new covers as well!
My TTT!
Ah you’ve got such a pretty selection of books this week! 🙂 I really like the Unspoken cover. Mary Poppins is cute too!
Thanks for stopping by!
I love the different editions of Cinder and Scarlet on here! And the new Harry Potter covers as well! I’ve never read Unspoken but that cover makes me want to…did you like it?
I did! It’s kind of unique in the paranormal genre, with witchcraft and spells set in a sleepy little picturesque English village, and it has a mystery genre feel to it. The protagonist is also pretty headstrong and sassy, so it was an enjoyable read!
I’ve never seen the Spanish covers for Cinder/Scarlet before, wow they are beautiful!!!
They really are! It’s so interesting how different countries go in such different directions with their cover designs!
I had never seen those covers of the Lunar Chronicles. They’re fantastic! Not that I’ve read the books yet but… still.
I know, I think they’re more elegant than the American editions! I love looking at international covers, sometimes the differences can really give series a whole different tone!
I was so close to including The Diviners on mine, I love that hardback version. Keep taking it of my shelf.
Me too! I need to get around to finishing it!
I love your picks! I love the colors and the art as well. I love the new art of the Harry Potter series. 🙂 Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my TTT last week 🙂
