The Coffee Book Tag

Posted March 5, 2015 by Cristina (Girl in the Pages) in Tags / 10 Comments

coffeetagI was tagged by Jackie over at She Reads A Lot to participate in The Coffee Book Tag! (Ironically enough, I actually don’t drink coffee in real life…I just never got on the bandwagon in high school and since then I’ve been sort of proud of myself that I got through college without using it to keep me awake. Although I am a big fan of hot chocolate and tea, which is what you’ll find me sipping on in my local coffee shops…) Jackie is one of my favorite fellow bloggers so be sure to stop by her blog for more fun tags, reviews, and her awesome book of the month feature! Let’s Begin!

1) Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans

8490112I’m not sure I would constitute this series as necessarily “hard to get in too” but Taylor has a lyrical, beautiful style of writing and a wonderfully strange take on fantasy that’s pretty unique to YA and was quite different than anything else I had read (which may be hard for some to get into). I don’t think I’ve come across anyone who read the series and disliked it though! You can read my Daughter of Smoke and Bone review here.

2) Peppermint Mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during winter or a more festive time of year.

missperegrineI like eerie but I don’t like horror, so I was hesitant to pick up Miss Peregrine’s despite receiving it as a gift a few years ago. I figured Halloween time was the perfect time to jump into it, and I read it as my first Book Buddies read with Lauren from Bookmarklit! It was the perfect read for October (atmospheric but not too spooky!)

3) Hot Chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

madelineThis is such a hard question! I’m going to have to go with Madeline, I was obsessed with her as a child, and I even have a life-size Madeline doll that my mom bought me when I was 8 (that has her appendicitis scar and everything!)

4) Double Shot of Espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat until start to finish.

maradyerThe Unbecoming of Mara Dyer had me so deliciously creeped out throughout the whole series! The need to read the whole series and find out what happened was compulsive.

5) Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.

redqueenThis book has crazy marketing, and it’s everywhere. It obviously worked though because I already bought it and read it!

6) That Hipster Coffee Shop: Give a book by an indie author a shout-out!

damseldistressedI’m not entirely sure this qualifies as an “indie” title (it’s not self-published or anything), but it’s a book I haven’t seen many reading, and it’s really fantastic for a debut! You can read my review here.

7) Oops! I accidentally got decaf! Name a book you were expecting more from.

bookofivyI was expecting a really thrilling, femme-fatale esque tale, but it fell flat for me. While it had some good themes, I was definitely expecting more action! You can read my review here.

8) The Perfect Blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.

justonedayThis book was NOT the fluffy contemporary I was expecting, and while it was a beautiful tale of self growth by the end it was really heart-wrenching at times and lacked closure! You can read my review of it here.

  1. Thanks for the tag! This looks like a really fun tag – I’m excited to do it! I never really got on the coffee bandwagon either. I love hot chocolate way too much! And whenever I did drink coffee, it just made my head fuzzy and didn’t wake me up AT ALL. So you know.

Haha I’ve been seeing Red Queen everywhere as well! I’m dying to read it – everyone who has says it’s pretty good (or most people at least). I haven’t read the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer yet and it’s been on my list for so long! I’ll get to it one of these days… Great post!

  2. Thanks for tagging me! I’ve never seen this tag before, so I’m excited to give it a go! 🙂

I’ve heard amazing things about Daughter of Smoke & Bone, but I’ve never actually read it. I think I’ll have to pick it up at some point!
